We offer several designated marshalling points within BC including Nanaimo, Vancouver, Kelowna, Kamloops, Williams Lake, Prince George, Smithers, and Calgary, AB.

Role Purpose

To provide risk management support services to the Red Chris mine and support adherence to the Newcrest Risk Management Policy and Standard, including compliance with the Management of Material Risk Procedure and supporting guidance documents.

We are seeking an individual for a Fly In, Fly Out opportunity working on a two weeks in, two weeks out rotation.

Accountabilities:

  • Risk management advice and support
o Provide general risk assessment facilitation, advice and support
o Support the delivery of training and coaching on risk systems and processes
o Advise on risk controls and improvements to reduce risk
o Input to crisis response and contingency planning for material risk events
  • System and process management
o Administer existing risk management systems and processes
o Maintain and manage the site risk information base, including the material risk register
o Coordinate and support annual Management review of the site risk profile and risk register
o Coordinate risk management input to development and review of the business plan
  • Planning
o Review and advise on the risk management component of site based capital project requests
o Support the regional risk team in the management and coordination of risk survey for insurance purposes at Red Chris
  • Project and change management
o Project manage rollout of risk management system enhancements (e.g. IT solution)
o Assist with change management for changes to risk management systems and processes
  • Governance and reporting
o Facilitate embedment and adherence to the Newcrest Risk Management policy and standard
o Review quality and detail of risk assessment data and information to ensure risk is well managed
o Validate that risk reduction actions and/or improvement actions are closed
o Compile and deliver reports to Management on risk profile, risk metrics and action status
  • Training and Continuous Improvement
o Lead the planning, coordination and execution of risk management training at Red Chris (in conjunction with the site Training department)
o Commitment to continuously improving current risk management practices both at the site and regional level
o Participate as a member of the Risk Management Community of Practice for Newcrest

Qualifications & Experience:

Qualifications:
  • Essential
o Formal business-based degree qualification (e.g., commerce, finance, law) or technical degree qualification (e.g., engineering, science) with focus on risk management principles.
  • Desirable
o Undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in governance, risk or compliance.
Behavioural Competencies:
  • Team player with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Customer service orientation with the capacity to positively engage stakeholders to deliver the required outcomes.
  • Ability to plan, effectively prioritize, and handle several different tasks at the same time
  • Group facilitation skills with the ability to listen and draw out views from all group members.
  • Good data analytical skills, with an attention to detail.
  • Ability to act with discretion and treat confidential information appropriately.
Technical Capabilities:
  • Exposure to risk management practices and contributing to the development and implementation of effective systems and processes for risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying a broad range of structured risk assessment techniques and tools (e.g. qualitative risk assessment, semi-quantitative risk assessment).
Required Knowledge & Experience (Essential & Desirable):
Essential:
  • Operational experience
Desirable:
  • Experience in an operational risk management, corporate governance, corporate compliance role for a medium to large corporation.
Alternatively, experience as a consultant in any of the same areas.
  • Experience in a professional advisory/support role for a medium to large corporation, with a significant focus on risk management.
  • Experience in the implementation of a risk framework and process including facilitation of risk workshops
  • Experience using Power BI, Tableau (or any other equivalent data analytics/reporting app)
