General information:

Planning, design and technical coordination of the P&CM systems for Substations & Industrial projects. Detail electrical design for interface engineering of P&CM & Automation Systems with HV apparatus, MV & LV switchgears, communication architecture, Telecommunication, Instrumentation, SCADA Systems and AC/DC Auxiliary Systems. As a member of the engineering team, the candidate will produce engineering deliverables such as AC/DC schematics, cable list, wiring diagrams, specifications and interact with the other project team members, the customer, and suppliers of goods and engineering services.

Responsibilities:

  • The primary responsibilities of this position are to understand, analyze and interpret projects' requirements, develop and design advanced protection systems, communication and control systems for large industrial and utility applications.
  • Prepare list / schedule of technical deliverables;
  • Prepare technical specifications and conceptual design reports;
  • Preparation and/or review of single (three) line diagrams, protection, metering and control schematics & wiring/interconnection diagrams and cable lists, AC/DC auxiliary services design and physical arrangement of substation layouts.
  • Produce detailed architectures for communications networks/topologies, equipment I/O lists, specifications, construction and commissioning specifications for substation automation systems;
  • Auxiliary system design including load calculations and equipment sizing; including AC/DC panels, auxiliary transformers, transfer switches, DC battery sizing and parameters specifications.
  • Perform, load flow, shot circuit, protection coordination studies, relay setting list and arc flash assessments as per applicable Canadian standards; HV and LV Cable type selection/sizing and trays loads calculations & cable routing; Prepare drawing packages for installation and commissioning.
  • Participate in installation supervision and commissioning in remote sites.
  • Participate in the preparation of RFQ's and bid evaluations & analysis.
  • Participate in Design reviews; involving electrical, civil, structural, mechanical & control engineering Technical follow-up and support during engineering, procurement & construction.
  • Participate in progress meetings (Internal, with Customer and with Sub-suppliers);
  • Quality planning, monitoring and follow-up during engineering, procurement & construction.
  • Control and manage change related to P&C system during project execution; Interface with other project team members in related electrical, mechanical and civil disciplines and as well PM, Finance, Scheduling, Documentation, EH&S, Construction etc.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering (preferably in Power Systems);
  • 5+ years of related experience in the field of substations and industrial electrification projects;
  • Good knowledge of Disconnect switches, Circuit breaker, GIS, power transformers schematics, and AC/Dc auxiliary systems;
  • Knowledge of IEEE, NEMA, NEC, IEC electrical standards.
  • Good soft skills in communication, leadership, initiative and negotiation to interface directly with clients;
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills; Must be precise, organized, flexible, autonomous & self-starter able to work on several projects simultaneously;
  • Knowledge of computer engineering tools and software like ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, CYME and, AutoCAD electrical);
  • Travel is required; up to 30% both domestic and international.
  • Familiarity with the following would be considered a key asset: utility and industrial protection design concepts and hardware/software of the major IED vendors such as ABB, SEL, GE, Siemens, Schneider/Alstom, Beckwith and Basler common utility and industrial communication protocols such as: DNP3, Modbus, IEC 60870-5-101/103/104, ICCP, IEC61850, IRIG-B, AB Data Highway+ utility and industrial communication concepts including: Ethernet, EIA-232, EIA-485, single and multi-mode fiber optics, OPGW and wireless implementation
  • Experience with short circuit calculation, protection setting and coordination using software such as SKM, ETAP, CYME and Aspen Oneliner PLC (Power Line Carrier) system design and programming
  • Design experience with integration platform hardware/software including ABB (COM600/RTU560), GE Harris (D20/D200 ConfigPro), Subnet Solutions, Open Systems International, Rockwell AB PLC/RTU products
  • Commissioning and troubleshooting experience with industrial and utility protection, control and communication systems
