Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager of Facilities Management the incumbent will perform all aspects of grounds maintenance for the facility to provide a clean, safe and welcoming environment for residents, visitors and staff. The incumbent will maintain the lawn and garden areas, cutting, weeding, tilling, watering and planting. Other responsibilities include cleaning and disinfecting seating areas and tables used by residents, visitors and staff.

Applicants must be between the ages of 15-29, and preference given to candidates living in the community of West St Paul, MB.

Experience
Acceptable training or experience in all aspects of yard maintenance and general yard maintenance equipment.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
Grade 10 education.
Qualifications and Skills
Demonstrates Knowledge and Support of
The vision, values, goals and objectives of the WRHA and of Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg.
Personal Health Information Act, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions), and other legislated acts.
Knowledge of operating and maintaining power lawn equipment and maintaining green space/garden areas.
Demonstrated ability to communicate in English; both orally and in writing.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to perform a wide variety of duties such as weeding, cutting grass, watering, trimming, planting, changing lights, garbage collection, cleaning, painting and other related duties.
Ability to work from and climb stepladders.
Working knowledge of applicable sanitation and safety standards related to the department.
Ability to follow safe work procedures and observe all aspects of resident safety at all times.
Maintain a high standard of service and cleanliness.
Ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
Initiative, reliability, persistence and adaptability.
Physical Requirements
Good physical and mental health to meet the position demands.
Ability to operate moving equipment with suitable foot/hand/eye coordination.
Working outside in various weather conditions.
May encounter agitated or aggressive individuals.
May involve exposure to noise, allergens, toxic materials, disease, blood, body fluids, etc.
Performing physical activities that require considerate use of arms and legs and moving of body, such as bending, lifting, balancing, walking and stooping.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
