Student Recreationist, Long Term Care Recreation Services
Temporary Part Time (up to 15 months)

$15.50/hour Reference#:22-108B

The Student Recreationist functions as a member of the Recreation Team in planning, developing, implementing and

evaluating a varied activity program with opportunities for maintaining optimal physical, cognitive, emotional, spiritual, and

social well-being under the direction of the Coordinator, Resident Activities. The Student Recreationist supports the

resident care plan with attention to goals and measurable outcomes while emphasizing and encouraging participation

utilizing resident centered approaches tailoring to their abilities, needs, interests, and values.

Role Responsibilities

  • Develops knowledge about residents in order to respond to their individual and group needs through a process of
formal and informal assessment.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates individual programs, group programs and community outings suited to the
individual needs of the residents on the assigned unit and consistent with the overall activity program
  • Transport residents to and from activities, on and off the home areas
  • Maintains current knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles/theories consistent with best practices in Long

Term Care (e.g. courses, seminars).

  • Implements and assists in the weekly and monthly calendar of events

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current enrollment as a Student from an accredited College/University program of study in any of the following:
Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation, Gerontology
