St. Thomas University invites applications for the position of Student Support/Program Coordinator, Mi’kmaq
Maliseet Bachelor of Social Work Program (MMBSW) for the three-year period June 2023 to June 2026.

Since the MMBSW Program was established in 2005, over 100 L’nu Social Workers from NB, NS, and QC were granted
their degrees by St. Thomas University. The 7th cohort will run from September 2023 to June 2026. The MMBSW
Program recognizes that most students have child, community, and extended family responsibilities. Students carry
significant cultural responsibilities and often have their education complicated by the need to find ways of walking
between two (or more) very different worlds with different value systems.

Job summary: The MMBSW Student Support/Program Coordinator is responsible for the delivery of the MMBSW
program and to provide student support services and cultural guidance in the field. The Student Support/Program
Coordinator will plan and execute a recruitment program; oversee the logistics of delivering each course; review
financial information as required; coordinate activities of the MMBSW Steering Committee; coordinate the activities of
the MMBSW Curriculum Committee; attend and assist with the delivery of classes; liaise with First Nation leadership,
First Nation governments, professional associations, provincial governments, and funding agents, as required. A more
detailed list of duties can be requested.

The successful candidate will be engaged as an independent contractor with compensation commensurate with
qualifications and experience and will be responsible for the remittance of applicable deductions and taxes to Revenue
Canada.

It is important to note that due to the nature of the position, the successful candidate must provide a satisfactory
Criminal Records Search; be agreeable to work flexible hours and travel regularly; and possess a Class “5” Driver’s
License with a clean driving record and access to a personal vehicle which will pass a safety inspection.

Qualifications: A Bachelor of Social Work degree required. Master of Social Work degree is preferred. A minimum of
five (5) years of community-related work is required post-MSW degree. Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik cultural knowledge
connected to traditional practices and ceremonies is a requirement; ability to speak in one of the two (2) languages is
an asset.
