Simplicity Air Futures Program - Technician’s Helper

The role will expose the candidate to all aspects of Mobile Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning Services, and Idle Management Systems in relation to the specialized services delivered through Simplicity Air. This will involve working alongside Simplicity Air Technicians and gaining valuable skills and understanding from decades of hands-on and learned experience.

Main Duties:

• Move tools, equipment, and other materials to and from work areas.
• Support service area for technicians.
• Assist with troubleshooting at the job site.
• Assist with completing service-related processes and paperwork.
• Keep work areas clean and orderly.
• Assist with assembling, installing, and repairing HVAC components such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, and controls.
• Use a variety of hand and power tools.
• Assist with positioning, aligning, and adjusting parts for proper fit and assembly and connect cables, tubes, and wires.
• Comply with safety regulations.
• Assist with testing for leaks using testing devices.
• Perform other tasks as required.

Purpose: To give an opportunity to local young individuals who have completed secondary school and are interested in learning a trade; the experience of what it would be like to work in a trade environment. 

Objective: This experience will give the individual the best opportunity to obtain employment in a local organization. 

Outcome: We will provide the individual with lifelong skills that will be useful in their future and provide knowledge about a vehicle system that needs more training within the industry. They will be able to take the experience and utilize the opportunity to leverage employment over other candidates. It will also provide a means for them to purchase the necessary tools for their trade.

Criteria: Any individual that has completed secondary school with an interest in pursuing a career in a trade: Automotive Service Technician, Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician, Truck and Coach Technician, Agricultural Equipment Technician, and Powered Lift Truck Technician.

What to Expect: The individual will:

• Receive training and mentoring in the mobile air conditioning industry.
• Learn about work ethics, health, and safety, and how to use trade-related tools and equipment.
• Get an understanding of how to provide value to future employers.
• Be evaluated throughout the term of their employment in specific areas based on their performance, including the following categories:
• Punctuality
• Attitude
• Workmanship
• Trade Skills
• Teamwork
• Safety

• Each day the individual will complete a quick questionnaire that will provide feedback on the new things they have learned and the experiences they had over the course of the day.

Benefits:

• Collect a wage during the time of employment.
• The hours worked will be provided in documentation which may apply to apprenticeship hours in a related trade.
• A certificate of completion will be provided with their overall performance score that can be used to provide future employers to highlight their performance.
• Based on their performance scores, the individual may receive up to $1500 for tool purchases on a prorated basis.
• Will receive local recognition for their achievement through social media and local publications.
• Individuals with exceptional performance will receive a letter of recommendation for future employers.
• May be given an opportunity for long-term employment at Simplicity Air Ltd.

Timelines/Hours of Work:

• Start Date: Tuesday, July 04, 2023
• End Date: Friday, September 01, 2023
• Monday to Friday: 8am to 5pm or 7am to 4pm = 42.5 hours per week with ½ hour unpaid lunch.
