The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications from qualified, team-oriented
individuals for the non-bargaining, full-time position of Supervisor of Accounting within the Business
Department. The position is expected to begin as soon as possible.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Financial Services, the Supervisor of Accounting will assist and
supervise all facets of the accounting function. The Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the
maintenance of the general ledger and adherence to the Ministry of Education Uniform Code of
Accounts, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Public Service Accounting Board (PSAB)
Standards. This position will be the primary liaison with external auditors and coordinate the
completion annual financial statements, March reporting, other year end reporting and ad-hoc
Ministry compliance requirements. The Supervisor will assist the Manager with the preparation of
the annual budget and revised budget. They will ensure that appropriate internal controls exist and
are operating as expected, by developing and implementing Board policies and procedures, and
ensuring integrity, accuracy, and control of data, and monitoring various accounts. This position is
responsible for the supervision of a Senior Accountant and a team of Accounting Clerks. Salary
and benefits will be paid/provided in accordance with Board Policy.
Nature & Scope of Position:
Supervision of banking, accounts receivable and other day-to-day transactions, including
journal entries
Accounting support for the Windsor Essex Student Transportation Services (WEST)
consortium and Employment Services programs
Maintain accounting periods, access, customers in the accounting system (Sparkrock)
Coordinate the recording and reporting of all Board tangible capital assets
Review and submission of all Ministry funding reports (Priority and Partnership Fund
accounting and reporting)
Responsible for all aspects of tax compliance, including HST and charitable organization
reporting requirements
Assist the Manager of Financial Services with the preparation of the Board’s annual budget
and revised budget.
Interacting with other Supervisors within the Finance Department, Superintendents, Coordinators, Principals, Vice Principals, Managers, other supervisory staff within the Board
Develop reports for payroll, purchasing and accounts payable supervisors.
Demonstrate a commitment to and documented success in working to create a fair, inclusive,
anti-racist environment for all stakeholders, and to supporting diverse constituencies and
populations.
Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Financial Services
Qualifications:
Successful completion of a University Degree or College Diploma (minimum 3 years) in
Business with emphasis in Accounting.
A minimum of 5 years accounting experience.
A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, in good standing.
Related supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment.
Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to train, lead and motivate others.
Public sector experience and knowledge of PSAB is considered an asset.
Advanced level of computer and keyboarding skills in a variety of software applications,
including Microsoft Office.
