Position Description
A temporary full time (1.0) Primary/Intermediate Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024. The assignment will be at Bert Ambrose Elementary School.
Bert Ambrose Elementary is a K-6 school located in the northeast section the City of Fort St John. The school will have a student population of 215 students in the 2022-23 school year, 15% of whom are Indigenous students. Parents are actively involved in our school community; volunteering in our classrooms, coaching sports teams, and assisting with various PAC activities. Teachers, administrators, and support staff work collaboratively to provide a vibrant learning environment for our students. Qualifications and Experience
Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
Experience and/or training in teaching at the elementary level
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to build community in the classroom
Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning, Positive School Culture, Healthy Schools and Sense of Belonging
Ability/desire to work collaboratively with students and parents
Willingness to work in a collaborative
model with the school community to support the Framework for Enhancing
Student Learning document (school plan).
Willingness to collaborate, plan and
co-facilitate curriculum development, professional development
opportunities and in-services linked to school goals for enhancing
student learning for staff and parents
Cognizant of learning outcomes and evaluation processes outlined in provincial curriculum
Cognizant of the Core Competencies in the new BC Curriculum
Familiarity with the new provincial reporting order for September 2023
Familiarity with current best practices in the core subject areas
Strong familiarity with district Literacy and Math assessments including: Cold Write, PM Benchmarks, QCA, DNA, Map, and RAD
Willingness to work in a collaborative model regarding curriculum, assessment, instruction and planning
Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the needs of students
Ability to work as part of a team to
develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with
academic, social, emotional, and physical learning disabilities and
adjust to the needs of the students
Ability to differentiate instruction, scaffold, and support to meet the varying needs of all learners
Experience and/or training related to working with children with specific needs; including ELL, ADHD, FASD, ASD, and DCD
Experience supporting the role of the Educational Assistant in the classroom
Willingness to incorporate technology into the classroom to enhance learning opportunities
Commitment to ongoing professional development

Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate)
Compensation
2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
$2,761 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $59,478 - $101,425
Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
