Reporting to the Supervising Engineer, Transmission Planning, this position develops and applies power system engineering principles, various analysis skills, and good utility practices in various planning studies to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective connections of load and generator customers. This position will also provide Planning support in transmission system projects, capital maintenance projects and takes on responsibilities of developing and maintaining transmission system model.

Responsibilities:
Perform power system load flow, stability, and short circuit studies to assess the impact of the transmission connection projects, including but not limited to generation, load, distribution energy resources etc.
Develop study reports, document results and recommendations with minimum revisions and communicate with AESO and the customer as needed.
Work with the AESO, the market participant, and other stakeholders to develop connection strategies and mitigation plans to connect customer and system projects to the Alberta Interconnected Electrical System (AIES).
Work with AESO to ensure proper development of project scope and Functional Specification for transmission projects.
Provide technical support to System Operations and other stakeholders by assessing the impact of Transmission system projects when requested.
Develop bidding documents to respond to identified RFI/RFP requests and execute on planning deliverables.
Develop load flow base cases using PSSE software. Update slider files on PSSE.
Prepare data submission packages for new and modified transmission facilities following appropriate AESO data submission requirements.
Perform capacitor bank assessment, Static VAR Compensator (SVC) assessment, harmonic scan, short circuit analysis and other miscellaneous electrical engineering analyses.
Support the development and compliance of Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS)

Qualifications:
Minimum Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering. Advanced degree is an asset.
3+ years of related experience is required.
P.Eng. is required.
A solid understanding of power system concepts and a good understanding of power system analytical techniques and various transmission/distribution equipment.
Experienced with power system analysis program such as PSSE.
Good interpersonal skills with strong oral and written communication skills.
A demonstrated flexibility and capability to self-start.
Ability to effectively interact with internal and external customers.
Excellent team player and ability to prioritize assignments to meet commitments.
