Dawson Road Maintenance operates a diverse fleet of specialized equipment using the latest in technology, including GPS-tracking backed by real-time weather forecasts. From winter snow to avalanches, mud slides or washouts, we work hard to make sure our highways are open and safe for the travelling public.

In this role you will be a valued member of Dawson Road Maintenance, working in a permanent, full-time position of Vice President of Dawson Road Maintenance, reporting to the President and CEO. This role provides leadership, oversight, and management of the four service areas, 100 Mile, Williams Lake, Fort St. John, and Smithers, for Dawson Road Maintenance. The incumbent exercises strong people management skills along with detailed planning and organizational expertise to consistently deliver against company objectives. The preferred base location for this position is Kamloops, BC and position will require 25% travel.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Establishes, implements, and communicates the strategic direction of the division’s operations
  • Establish and maintain a safety-first work environment throughout division and ensuring compliance with corporate requirements
  • Collaborates with executive leadership to develop and create business plans to meet corporate objectives while supplying expertise and guidance on operations financials, projects, people, and systems
  • Develop, implement, and maintain relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Develop division budgets and maintain material usage, labour utilization, and operational spending within budget
  • Identify efficiencies with equipment, planning, and people, and implement improvements
  • Collaborates with other division leaders and departments to carry out the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements innovative processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources and materials.
  • Builds best practices in project management, field management, and in general business operating procedures.
  • Manages the regions to ensure each service area is performing in accordance with Quality Management System procedures
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by integrating quality control into all processes
  • Participate in corporate expansion activities such as partnerships, projects, and acquisitions

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, Construction Management, or relevant technical education is required (Master’s degree is preferred); and
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years’ experience in road maintenance, construction, or a related industry in operations management; and
  • Minimum five (5) years in a senior management role
  • Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on operations and business processes
  • A track record of building successful teams, effectively motivating people and maintaining effective relationships
  • Strong planning and execution skills
  • Superior analytic, problem solving and judgement skills
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate ideas and actions to those at all levels of the organization and externally with key stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of business, finance, quality control systems and standards
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, challenging and constantly changing work environment
  • Strong technical skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Current knowledge of project management tools including Microsoft Project and scheduling software
  • Excellent verbal and written communications
