The Township of Tiny is currently seeking qualified applicants for the seasonal Waterfront Aquatics Instructor position.

The Waterfront Aquatic Instructor is responsible for the delivery of Tiny’s “Introduction to Swim to Survive” Waterfront Program during the months of July and August. This position is responsible for the education and empowerment of parents/guardians of children ages 5 and under, by providing them with the tools needed to teach their child how to safely navigate Tiny’s waterfront and beaches. The Waterfront Aquatic Instructor also provides an introduction to the Lifesaving Society Swim to Survive standards.

Responsibilities:

· Maintains constant surveillance of participants; conducts routine scans and headcounts to reduce risk of participant injury.

· Acts immediately to secure safety of participants in the event of a waterfront/medical emergency.

· In the event of a crisis, directs emergency waterfront procedures and delivers first aid, until emergency medical services arrive.

· Attends all staff training and in-services as required, in order to understand all waterfront policies and procedures as outlined by the Township.

· Completes a Waterfront Site Check Report before each swim session, and immediately communicates any pressing issues and concerns to the Community Recreation Leader.

· Arrives to shift in appropriate uniform, with a copy of the Waterfront Program Manual, a whistle, and a rescue aid.

· Responsible for the set-up and take down of all waterfront materials; buoy lines, beach cones, and floating dock.

· Presents professional attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.

Qualifications:

· Current NLS certification (Waterfront qualification an asset)

· Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C

· Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check

Working Conditions:

· Position includes two daytime shifts on Fridays for six weeks.

· Program to be delivered outdoors, at the Jackson Park Beach waterfront.

· Position requires lifting of waterfront equipment, exposure to the sun and elements, and a high level of physical fitness in order to fulfil lifeguarding requirements.

Health and Safety:

Required to work in compliance with the Ontario Health and Safety Act and regulations and all related Township policies and procedures.
