The Opportunity
The City of St. Albert has an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about youth led involvement asset development and engagement in St. Albert. As a Youth Asset Worker, you will support and strengthen community youth and ensure meaningful youth engagement with the goal of mobilizing young people to use their power as Asset Builders and change agents.

You will work as part of a team, with the Youth Asset Development Coordinator, to ensure a coordinated response to the Asset Development initiative and build independence and confidence in youth as they move towards full citizenship in the community. This involves working with the Youth in Action committee, as well as connecting and engaging with youth in St. Albert to assist with creating and developing any projects or initiatives that are of interest to them. It also involves preparing and leading skill-building activities. You will need to establish and maintain accurate records of all initiatives, meetings, events, and volunteer hours.

This position requires a high level of interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively and diplomacy. The Youth Asset Worker should be familiar with the 40 Developmental Assets and have working experience with other positive youth development and engagement models. The individual we seek must be a confident communicator in one-to-one and group settings and must be comfortable facilitating large and small groups of youth aged 15 – 24. The role requires a great deal of human sensitivity as well as conflict resolution, assessment, and referral skills.
Qualifications
  • A High School Diploma. Enrolment in, or completion of post secondary education in a relevant field such as Social Sciences, Community Development, Education, Social Work or Youth Studies is a definite asset.
  • Knowledge of current youth issues and comfort in working with youth is essential.
  • Applicants must demonstrate skills in social programming including research, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Experience in program planning for and with youth is essential.
  • Applicants must demonstrate time management skills with the ability to prioritize numerous tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficient using the Internet, Microsoft Office programs, including Microsoft Teams.
  • Familiarity with social networking platforms.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for business use are required as a majority of the work will be offsite.
  • Experience with facilitation, specifically with youth, is preferred.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in receipt of Canada Summer Jobs funding and therefore to be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria outlined by the Canada Summer Jobs program:
  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment,
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
Hours of Work
This is a casual position that will work approximately 36 hours per week. The work schedule is flexible, but applicants must be available to work evenings and weekends.
Compensation
Starting at $20.28 per hour based on qualifications and experience.

Starting immediately till September 2, 2023
