Apply your investigative experience as a Special Provincial Constable

The Prevention and Loss Management Services Branch is responsible for promoting assurance in the integrity of, and public confidence in, the administration of the BC Employment and Assistance (BCEA) Program.

Ministry Investigators are both experienced and trained in administrative and criminal law, and advanced investigation techniques. They act as Special Provincial Constables who conduct investigations and reviews where people are suspected of having committed criminal offences under the statutes administered by the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction and related offences under the Criminal Code of Canada. Ministry Investigators determine the appropriate enforcement action to be taken and make recommendations to the Ministry of Attorney General. Ministry Investigators evaluate loss prevention controls, analyze results and prepare reports and recommendations on findings. Ministry Investigators also conduct internal investigations specific to the Ministry.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Degree in Criminology, Law, Business Administration or a related field and two years' experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience and training in administrative and criminal law and advanced investigation techniques.


Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience in completing complex electronic court briefs, search warrants and production orders in commercial/financial crime or other serious crime.
  • Criminal Investigative experience in a commercial/financial crime or other serious crimes unit.


Proviso / Willingness Statements:

  • Ongoing training and participation in educational opportunities such as Criminology, Law, Commerce and Business Administration.
  • Valid B.C. driver’s license.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • May be required to travel alone, in remote areas throughout the province, under a variety of road/weather conditions, often without cellular contact. Overnight absences and the use of own vehicle may be required, where a government vehicle is not available, to conduct investigations and gather evidence.
  • May be required to operate a variety of equipment.
