GML is a small firm that specializes in a non-traditional area of actuarial science which is called actuarial evidence. Actuarial evidence is a specialized area of practice in which actuaries provide expert opinions in the course of adversarial proceedings. One of GML’s areas of expertise is “civil litigation”. We assist counsels and the courts in the quantification of financial damages arising out of such causes as motor vehicle accidents, slip and falls, medical malpractice, and wrongful dismissals.

GML is seeking a motivated individual interested in playing a key role in the creation of the reports that specifically address the quantification of financial damages associated with the costs of future care needs of individuals who have been injured.

More specifically, GML is looking for a part-time employee (10 to 20 hours per week at $30-$35 per hour) whose main duties would be to:

• Analyze reports and tables of costs issued by experts (e.g., Life Care Planners) which provide the future costs of care required by injured individuals. This includes verifying the calculations therein and ensuring consistency between the calculations and the narrative of the report.
• Communicate with the experts regarding any questions/requests for clarification
• Prepare Excel spreadsheets to quantify the financial damages
• Write detailed reports to be submitted to the actuary for use in court proceedings

This is a telework position. After a period of training, the successful candidate would work autonomously and benefit from flexible work hours. In addition to ongoing support from colleagues, monthly staff meetings offer the opportunity to exchange on non-work related topics.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

• High level of attention to details (1)
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Strong written communication skills in English (2)
• Computer savvy and fluent in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Collaborates well with others but also enjoys working independently
• A Bachelor’s degree (or near completion) in a math related field of study (ex: actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or accounting) or, in another type of field AND demonstrated mathematical skills

GML reports are submitted to the courts and as such require a very high level of accuracy and consistency. Attention to details is one of the top demands of this position.

GML is a bilingual firm (French and English) and as such understanding/speaking French is an asset.

• Analyser les rapports et les tableaux de coûts émis par des experts (« Life Care Planners ») qui fournissent les coûts futurs des soins requis par les personnes blessées. Il s’agit notamment de vérifier les calculs qui y figurent et d’assurer la cohérence entre les calculs et le texte narratif du rapport de l’expert.
• Communiquer avec les experts concernant toute question / demande d’éclaircissements
• Préparer des feuilles de calcul Excel pour quantifier les dommages pécuniaires
• Rédiger des rapports détaillés à soumettre à l’actuaire pour utilisation dans les procédures judiciaires

Il s’agit d’un poste en télétravail. Après une période de formation, le candidat retenu travaillerait de manière autonome et bénéficierait d’un horaire de travail flexible. En plus du soutien continu des collègues, une réunion mensuelle de l’équipe offre l’occasion d’échanger sur des sujets non liés au travail.

• Haut niveau d’attention aux détails (1)
• Excellente capacité d’analyse et de résolution de problèmes
• Solides compétences en communication écrite en anglais (2)
• Maîtrise de l’informatique et maîtrise de Microsoft Excel et Word
• Collabore bien avec les autres, mais aime aussi travailler de façon autonome
• Un baccalauréat (ou en voie d’être complété) dans un domaine d’études lié aux mathématiques (ex: actuariat, mathématiques, statistiques ou comptabilité) ou, dans un autre domaine ET des compétences mathématiques démontrées

Les rapports de GML sont soumis aux tribunaux et exigent donc un très haut niveau de précision et de cohérence. L’attention aux détails est l’une des principales exigences de ce poste.

GML est une entreprise bilingue (français et anglais) et, à ce titre, la compréhension et l’expression orale en français sont un atout.
