About the position:
We’re seeking an applications intern focused on applying our LDD (laser weld monitoring) technology to next-generation welding processes. This customer-facing role will involve technical sales, customer support, applications development, and software testing for IPG’s sensor products. This is a high profile hands-on position. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team that interface with all aspects of our business and have a measurable impact on our performance. Successful completion of an internship program could lead to a full time job opportunity with IPG Canada.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Learning about our unique technology and how to laser weld with robots.
  • Educating our customers on what our products can do and how to use them.
  • Conduct applications testing in our state-of-the-art laser lab.
  • Prepare client reports and presentations summarizing the lab work.
  • Remote technical support and troubleshooting of installed systems.
  • Provide technical assistance to other applications labs within the IPG Photonics ecosystem.
  • Providing customer training and delivering technical presentations to internal and external clients remotely.
  • This position will be based out of our Kingston Ontario Office. This is an in-office position with no travel required.
About you:
  • You’re an excellent communicator who has the aptitude to learn advanced technical concepts and then teach and inspire customers and stakeholders.
  • You understand the importance of customer service and will go the extra mile for our clients.
  • Technology is your friend, you are comfortable learning new software packages and automation equipment and are comfortable in an engineering lab or production environment.
  • You love to build and create new things and solving technical problems along the way.
  • Any experience with robots, lasers or automation will be valuable.
  • You understand the basics of electricity and how devices communicate.
  • Collaboration and teamwork come naturally to you and you have demonstrable experience being part of a high-performing team.
  • Growth excites you as does the chance to see your work have a direct impact on the success of our organization.
  • You have a post-secondary education in engineering/physics or a related field or you have a technologist background with work experience in automation/integration/PLC fields.
Strong preference will be given to candidates with a background in engineering or physics with experimental experience and/or previous field support experience with industrial automation equipment including robots. Great communicators taking technical programs are also encouraged to apply.
