Job Overview
Reporting to the Market Director, the Area Manger supports the National Diabetes Trust’s mission through the door-to-door pickup and drop-box collection programs Declutter operations. The Area Manager is responsible for expansion and success of Business Operations in their area. The Area Manager will be a resource to Business Operations Managers and employees in the various offices and satellites within their region.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure weekly/monthly/yearly quotas are maintained and met at all National Diabetes Trust-supplied Value Village stores as contracted for by the National Diabetes Trust in the region
  • Establish new operations for the collection of reusable clothing and goods where possible and appropriate
  • Maintain strong fiscal accountability and excellent net revenues and direct planning of the Declutter Program in the region and acts as the liaison with Value Village Stores to ensure revenues are maximized and expenses are monitored
  • Prepare and follow a yearly budget for the Declutter Program in the area and works with the Market Director and other Managers in the Declutter Program to share information in the process. Monitor all revenue and expenses of the Declutter Program to ensure maximum profit levels are maintained by way of a cost analysis. Ensure over-budget policies are followed. Update Latest Estimates (LEs) quarterly as needed.
  • Prepare concise and insightful monthly variance reports with comments on forecasts and expectations for the current month
  • Highlight long term trends including opportunities and threats that have come to the forefront. Identify and implement required actions.
Maintain and ensure a steady flow of merchandise is delivered into all Value Village Stores as well as ensure delivery of additional merchandise to Value Village on an as required basis.

  • Strategize and implement effective methods to maintain and achieve a variety of
merchandise at all Value Village Stores.

  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with Value Village. Value Village Partner Manager and Ryder Account Manager to ensure business continuity.
  • Review and recommend opportunities in the Declutter Program operations for cost savings and increased efficiencies through economies of scale, elimination of duplication, use of technology and group purchasing.
  • Develop and/or refine tracking systems to monitor operations, maintain productivity.
  • Conduct annual operational audits to ensure accurate record keeping and legislative compliance in key areas such as: Occupational Health & Safety, National Safety Code / Commercial Vehicle Registration, etc.
  • Represent the best interests of National Diabetes Trust in all relationships with business, professional, government and other related communications.
  • Assume other duties that may be assigned by the Market Director.
About You

  • University Degree in Business, Marketing, or related discipline; or equivalent relevant experience
  • 7-10 years of a proven track record in a business environment combined with exposure to the charitable sector of the economy
  • Strong business, marketing, analytic and planning skills
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Well-developed organizational skills with an ability to focus both on critical detail and on the “big picture” of our collection business
  • Capacity to identify and nurture internal and external resources (both employees and volunteers) to build a strong collection team
  • Computer literate, proven senior management experience and multicultural experience an asset
  • Previous union experience in handling contract negotiations
  • Previous experience in a short-haul pick-up and delivery trucking business would be preferable
  • Previous experience in production forecasting, inventory management and shipping will be an asset
  • Strong communication/public relations experience
