Your Opportunity

In furthering our commitment to community and to maintaining our position as a regional top-tier design firm, Stantec has established Area Manager positions. The Area Manager role is the recognized leader of a local office and where applicable, is accountable to an Office Leader responsible for that area, and to the Alberta Regional Leader (RL) for oversight of internal operations, community profile and external community liaison.

We currently have an opening for an Area Manager in our Fort McMurray, Alberta – office.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Community Profile: In conjunction with the Regional Leader, and our Office Leader – based in our Red Deer office, the Fort McMurray Area Manager is the spokesperson representing Stantec in the community. The Area Manager leads initiatives to represent Stantec locally within the social and economic community and to coordinate staff participation in local technical and professional associations.
  • Strategic Focus: The Area Manager collaborates with Senior Management in establishing and/or maintaining Stantec's position as one of the top tier design firms in the area in which the office is located. The Area Manager oversees the success of local delivery of professional services across BCs and will work collaboratively with Business Center Leaders to implement effective business strategies and deliver on targeted objectives.
  • HSSE and Quality: In collaboration with the Office Leader, the Area Manager is responsible to oversee the office health, safety, security and environment programs and the quality initiatives (Office PM framework reviews and equipment management practices) of the office.
  • Account Management & Business Development: Maintain and develop contacts with key clients in the region by taking part in business development activities including participating in the local business development meetings (L&L), community engagement initiatives and management of local accounts.
  • Employee Engagement: In collaboration with the Office Leader, accountable for overall employee engagement in an office. The AM will be responsible to work with the local HRBP to prepare, implement and report on employee engagement activities and results.
  • Management: The AM supports the Office Contact with guidance on matters requiring leadership input.
  • Project Management: Will take on complex, multi-discipline projects in the Fort McMurray Area.
  • Client Management: Participate in expanding our client and project portfolio through proposals and business development opportunities.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Demonstrated leadership capability along with strong presentation, written and verbal skills to dearly convey information to a variety of audiences.
  • Effectively work in an entrepreneurial, interdisciplinary environment and be able to direct and work collaboratively with professional technical teams of highly capable and motivated individuals.
  • Excellent organizational, strategic, planning and project implementation skills.
  • Must have the ability to build and nurture lasting relationships with corporate organizations, key business partners, clients, and employees.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, business, and/or related field, or equivalent technical diploma.
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience within multi-disciplinary environments including community liaison.
  • Experience with budgeting, project management, and operations an asset.
  • BC Leadership experience will be considered an asset.
