Tenure-track faculty position in Computer Science

The School of Engineering and Computer Science at Laurentian University invites applications for

a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Artificial Intelligence at the Assistant Professor level

with a start date of July 1, 2023. Exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor level will be

considered.

About the Position

The School of Engineering and Computer Science seeks innovative individuals with established

records of both teaching and research. The candidate should demonstrate excellence in research and

will augment the School’s research profile through publication of fundamental or applied research

within their area of specialization and supervision of graduate research students who also tangibly

demonstrate positive research impact. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety

of undergraduate and graduate courses and to develop graduate courses in their area of

specialization. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in governance at the

School, Faculty and University levels. They will strive for excellence in all of these areas of activity

and commit to advancing Laurentian University’s bilingual and tricultural mandates.

Essential Qualifications

All candidates must have a PhD in Computer Science with specialization in an AI-related field.

Candidates should demonstrate research ability (scholarly publication record) and teaching

competency.

The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, with a collaborative outlook, and will

demonstrate capability to make outstanding teaching contributions in Computer Science at both the

undergraduate and graduate levels. They will have an ongoing commitment to academic and

pedagogical excellence and will be able to cite prior, successful, adoption of novel / modern

instructional techniques. Applicants must have clearly articulated research goals, be committed to

establishing sustained research excellence, and able to present a viable plan to achieve these

objectives. They will demonstrate a willingness to develop their research specialization into a

coherent program of research, involving extensive graduate research student supervision and be able

to show how they will be able to sustain such activity through successful appointment to the

position.

houses engineering laboratories, modern and well-equipped working space for graduate students

and researchers, a fully equipped fabrication workshop that supports teaching, research and

innovation, the Jim Fielding Innovation Center, and Laurentian’s Mining Innovation, Rehabilitation

and Applied Research Corporation (MIRARCO). Laurentian University also has close and

productive ties to Science North, the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNOLAB, www.snolab.ca ),

Health Sciences North and our 2 post-secondary partners in the city, College Boréal and Cambrian

College.
