Job Description Summary

In this fulltime role, the Biomedical Technologist will maintain biomedical equipment; to evaluate, diagnose, repair and perform planned maintenance (PM), driving customer satisfaction through Service Excellence. Service area includes hospitals in & around Barrie, Ontario. Flexible hours of work are required.

It is a condition of hire that any new employees that will provide products or services to a GE Healthcare customer facility are fully vaccinated and provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination. All offers of employment are conditional upon the satisfaction of this requirement. “Fully vaccinated” means that any such person must have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccination approved by Health Canada. The second dose of vaccine must have been administered at least 14 clear days before commencing employment.

Job Description

Position Responsibilities

  • With minimal supervision, evaluate progressively complex, customer biomedical equipment issues.

  • Implement appropriate repairs, perform planned maintenance (PM), safety/environmental inspections and maintain effective customer relations.

  • Follow appropriate GE policies, procedures, hospital protocol and complete necessary documentation, meeting strict quality measurable metrics outlined in the contractually agreement between GE HealthCare and their customers.

  • Maintain daily communications with customers as directed, to ensure resolution and proper follow-up, leading to customer satisfaction. Implement GE / customer facility contract, supporting business goals and objectives.

  • Work as a member of local team to provide efficient service delivery to all accounts within assigned area or region. Share on-call / pager responsibility.

  • Document all repair actions and submit reports/summaries according to schedule. Maintain approved parts inventory. Manage service delivery processes in compliance with GE policies.

  • Ensure proper care of spares, tools and test equipment and ensure calibration. Enhance and maintain technical knowledge of current standards, codes and procedures regarding safe and effective use of medical equipment through formal instruction.

  • Support RSM on profitability targets (VCP, FSR Score Card, ETL), delivery and growth of assigned customers.

    • Support, participate and drive VCP initiative

    • Support RSM in achieving set metrics, to drive real time closure.

  • Engage the team in the delivery of performance measurement.

  • Manage assigned customers through proactive leadership and service delivery focus to create an environment to achieve ultimate customer satisfaction and loyalty.

  • Participate and support QPR with RSMs, HSAMs and DOSs

  • Demonstrate value to customers through education on service offerings.

  • Set / maintain contractual performance metrics expectation.

  • Demonstrates evidence of active approach to problem resolution

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think innovatively and independently.

  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining/enhancing professional competence through participation in appropriate continuing education activities.

  • Ability to maintain skills in an escalated paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team approach and to adhere to the accepted standards of personal conduct.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to interface with all levels of management is required.

  • Ability to quickly learn and utilize various corporate or computer-based applications.

  • Maintains the work area as clean as possible during and after work.

  • Performs corrective and preventive maintenance as per manufacturer specifications and compliant with policies and procedures outlined in Biomed Policy and CSA Standards

  • Maintains personal activity records for department including opening and closing work requisitions on the computer.

  • Maintains dialysis equipment, if certified to do so.

  • Provide Clinical input to users as needed for evaluations and purchase decisions.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Advanced Diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology / Engineering (Min 5 years).

  • Eligible for or working towards, Certification by the International Certification Commission (ICC) as a CBET(c).

  • Ability to perform effective repair and planned maintenance on basic biomedical or electronic equipment, including but not restricted to:

  • Anesthesia and ventilator equipment

  • Bedside and central monitoring

  • Biomedical equipment asset management system

  • Patient monitor information and database systems

  • Physiological measurement devices

  • Proficient computer skills including a functional knowledge of common business software such as MS Office.

  • Strong Networking / IT infrastructure.

  • Experience using Mechanical Tools and understanding of basic mechanical problems.

  • Previous experience developing and maintaining good customer relationships.

  • A valid Ontario driver’s license.

  • Microsoft Excel proficient

  • OACETT (Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists) membership.
