Under the management of the Employment Services Coordinator and reporting to the Lead Training Officers, the successful applicant will be responsible for:
  • Training and certification of all transit employees in a variety of vehicles including Bus/Light Rail Transit (LRT) operations and procedures, maintenance equipment and auxiliary vehicles.
  • Coordinate and conduct comprehensive training programs for LRT, Transit and Community Shttle Operators. These programs consist of classroom presentations, on-line instruction, on- board instruction and daily coaching and evaluations.
  • Remedial training which includes refreshers, driver evaluations, safety messaging and demonstrating the safe operation of vehicles.
  • Other related training duties as required.
Qualifications
  • A High School Diploma or equivalency (e.g. G.E.D or Certified International Equivalent) with at least 1 year of related experience.
  • Preference will be given to current or past LRT, Transit, Community Shuttle Operator or Calgary Transit Access Operators with at least 1 year experience and have had no preventative vehicular accidents (within the last year).
  • Candidates who have or are enrolled in post-secondary education focusing on Adult Learning Principles will also be given preference.
  • Excellent knowledge of Calgary Transit operations and procedures is considered an asset.
  • The successful applicant must possess exceptional interpersonal skills (guide, coach and mentor), as well as have an exemplary performance record.
  • Success in this position requires effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical knowledge and the ability to use good judgment when making decisions and problem solving.
Working Conditions:
Training Officers are occasionally required to perform light physical duties, in all types of weather, such as throwing switches, walking the rail right-of-way, boarding or exiting the train at locations other than platforms, platform duties, standing for extended periods, operating maintenance equipment, and working in various garages.

  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Compensation: Exempt Level C $62,819 - 93, 640 per annum (New Rates)

Days of Work: This position works variety of day or night, straight or split shifts which may include part shifts on the road and in training as operationally required, including weekends.


Hours of work: On-call hours, based upon operational requirements.
