The Registration/Booking Clerk performs a variety of clerical and patient related activities, including scheduling and booking of patient appointments, processing of referrals; performing reception, admitting and patient registration duties; and maintaining databases, records and other patient information. Provides clerical functions such as faxing, photocopying, and typing material by utilizing various computerized word processing and spreadsheet software programs. Answers the phone and responds to routine messages or forwards callers to appropriate personnel. Maintains departmental equipment, supplies and filing systems.

What you’ll do
  • Schedule bookings for the Operating Room (O.R.) following the guidelines of the block booking system; refers non-routine requests to the attention of the Charge Nurse. Enters booking data and requests charts for Surgical Day Care via computer. Prepares the final OR slate for distribution; seeks approval from the Charge Nurse or Manager as necessary.
  • Coordinate slated bookings with the surgeons' schedules and with other departments that are involved with O.R. patients (Diagnostic Imaging, Radiation Therapy). Refer any conflicts in booking times to the Charge Nurse or Manager for follow-up.
  • Collate various reports and history with booking form for upcoming cases. Assemble O.R. chart forms including relevant specimen; files required documents.
  • Receive incoming telephone calls for the O.R. and forwards to the appropriate personnel, or takes messages as required. Keeps departmental telephone list up-to-date.
  • Maintain stationery supply by monitoring according to predetermined reorder levels, preparing requisitions for the Manager's approval as supplies are needed. Receive, unpack and put away incoming O.R. supplies as directed.

What you bring
  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • One (2) year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology

  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
