Job Description:
Summary:
Barr is seeking a civil designer to undertake challenging and progressive work on engineering projects involving data collection, planning, and problem solving. The person selected for this position will work on multidisciplinary project teams, providing computer-aided drafting expertise using AutoCAD and Civil3D on a Windows platform. Typical duties consist of working with engineers to create, update, and revise civil engineering drawings and generate 3D models for field construction. Project responsibilities include developing and managing project CAD files including 2D and 3D geometry for engineering design and construction drawings. This may include producing general arrangement, plan view, cross sections, detail, or other styles of drawings. Additional responsibilities may include determining quantities for cost estimating and report preparation as well as construction observation, surveying, and monitoring.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Two-year technical certificate or experience/coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described above
  • Proficiency using current versions of AutoCAD and Civil3D
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with project team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship
  • Acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience directly related to the job responsibilities described above
  • Experience in the consulting industry
  • Experience with CADWorx and similar AutoCAD packages
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, office.
NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions.
