The Ottawa Blood Disease Centre at OHRI is seeking an experienced Clinical Research Assistant II to join the hematology research program. The successful candidate will play an active role in our busy, dynamic, diversified research group in the set-up, coordination and day-to-day management of The Ottawa Hospital Bio Bank and other research studies in thrombosis (treatment and/or prevention of blood clots), malignant hematology (lymphoma, leukemia, myeloma, myelodysplastic syndrome, bone marrow transplant) and/or benign hematology (hemophilia, transfusion medicine). A large portion of time is spent screening and identifying potential eligible participants, facilitating sample collection, completing chart reviews, data extraction and populating the clinical database. The successful candidate will be required to interact with the clinical staff (physician and nurses) to help identify suitable patients and will be required to interact with patients to obtain written consent.
Tasks may include:
  • Attending meetings for patient identification and tracking
  • Chart review for data extraction and data entry
  • Management of database and bio bank sample inventory
  • Liaise with clinical staff, physicians and patients
  • Preparation of new submissions and annual continuing reviews for the research ethics board
  • Assist with the preparation of contracts for sharing of samples and/or data
  • Quarterly report preparation for industry partners

Basic Requirements (Education/Experience):
  • 2 years research experience and a secondary diploma.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and written skills, time management, organizational and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with other team members
  • Ability to work in a virtual environment such as teleconferences, e-meeting and video conferences
  • Accountable and accurate, with a strong sense of attention to detail
  • Exceptional computer skills – Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project (preferred), basic database management
  • Evidence of training certification in Tri-Council Policy Statement -2 (TCPS-2) and the International Conference on Harmonisation – Good Clinical Practice Guidelines (ICH-GCP)
  • Evidence of training in Food and Drug Regulations, Division 5, and/or Device Regulations, as applicable

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Some experience in clinical research bio banks is preferred
  • Bilingual in English and French (not required but preferred)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Contract Details:
This is a 1-year full-time contract with the possibility of renewal
Salary: Min:$24.929/hr - Max:$29.367
