Co-Head Cook Job at Rocky View Foundation

Rocky View Lodge is seeking a Casual Co-Head Cook to fill in when our regular Co-Head Cooks are away. Shifts are 7 AM - 530 PM, 7 days per week. This is a supervisory role.

SUMMARY

With a passion toward service excellence for residents, families, guests and team members, the casual co-head cook is responsible for cooking and presenting meals for residents and guests of Rocky View Foundation. The cook shall assist in the coordination of all kitchen operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE MEASURES

Be responsible for ensuring that Rocky View Foundation policies, procedures and guidelines are followed in the food service area for quality assurance and safety.

Take direction and discuss concerns with the Manager.

Follows proper food handling procedures.

Prepares food items following time schedules, prescribed recipes, procedures and guidelines. Preparation and food service in appropriate containers and in a timely manner.

Composes and maintains an inventory of meat, grocery, milk, juice and bread orders.

Maintains Food Safety Certification.

Ensure all temperature sheets and checklists are completed and up to date.

Participates in Rocky View Residents Food Committee.

Catering for Rocky View Foundation functions as required.

Assists with menu development, serving food items, cash handling, meals on wheels preparation, inventory and new staff training.

Participates in food and equipment product evaluation.

Maintains and sanitizes work area and all related equipment

Maintains food in a temperature safety zone. Initiates corrective action as required. Monitors prep of food items, monitors food spoilage. Labels, dates and stores food items appropriately.

Practices safe and proper use of food service equipment.

Adheres to specific job responsibilities as outlined.

Identifies maintenance needs and submits work orders as appropriate.

Attends all staff meetings, safety meetings and department meetings and reports as required.

Interacts with team members, residents and families in a positive, caring manner.

Performs all tasks in accordance with Rocky View Foundation safety procedures and requirements.

Ensures adequate supply of all food items required to follow the menu.

DOCUMENTATION

Accurate, comprehensive, timely documentation in the department Communication book.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES INCLUDE:
Polite, spirit of service to residents, families and team members, while performing job tasks.

Accurate, comprehensive and timely documentation of any maintenance requests.

Accurate, timely, professional documentation in the department Communication book.

Ensures proper ordering and inventory management.

Ensures proper storage and disposal of all food items.

SAFETY:
Maintains certification of CPR and First Aid.

Contributes to a safe environment for residents, the team and self by understanding and adhering to Rocky View Foundation safety guidelines and practices at all times.

Demonstrates thorough knowledge of all resident, occupational health and safety and emergency preparedness and response to all policies and procedures.

Identifies and mitigates unsafe conditions in the work environment, including immediate reporting of any unsafe conditions.

Must provide proof of immunization against the Covid-19 virus prior to commencing employment at Rocky View Foundation.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES INCLUDE:

Collaborates, communicates and shares knowledge and learning experiences with team members.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES INCLUDE;

Coordinates with team members to ensure that all required tasks are completed on a daily basis.

Communicates any equipment issues to Manager and Maintenance personnel as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School graduation (Alberta or grade 12 equivalent)

Two years previous commercial cooking experience in a related environment.

Food Handlers Course and current CPR

Good Organization and interpersonal skills.

Understanding of WHMIS requirements.

A desire to work with seniors.

Flexible, willing and possesses a positive attitude.

A high standard of hygiene and personal appearance.

Must be able to perform duties with minimal supervision.
