Your Opportunity:

This position may be filled by a qualified Medical Laboratory Technologist I (MLT I) or alternatively, a Combined Laboratory X Ray Technologist I (CLXT I). The MLT I OR CLXT I is responsible to perform site specific manual and automated approved laboratory procedures, and related duties, following established standards and practices defined by the CMLTA (College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta), OR the ACCLXT (Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologists). If the successful candidate is a CLXT, they must be enrolled in or have completed the Transfusion Medicine courses offered through NAIT or equivalent. St. Paul is strategically located in the center of the Lakeland which boasts of many lakes and lots of recreational opportunities. It is about 209 kilometers from Edmonton and has a population of 6,000 in town and another 6,500 in the county. St. Paul is a major trading center for the surrounding area which consists of rich agricultural land and oil and gas industries. Although St Paul is a small town, the laboratory is busy department and a great site to gain valuable experience working with diverse populations and age groups. Description:

As a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist I, you will perform procedures in both the laboratory and in diagnostic imaging, typically in rural sites. You will work as a member of the inter-professional team and be responsible for collecting and analyzing biological specimens, conducting X-ray examinations, ECGs and reporting results. Your responsibilities include preparing patients, venipuncture and micropuncture, routine equipment maintenance, maintaining supplies and performing quality control procedures as required.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited program in Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology (CLXT). Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologists (ACCLXT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

This is a Laboratory only position, Diagnostic Imaging is not included. Working within a team environment, good interpersonal skills, core lab experience within the last 3 years, effective time management and the ability to set priorities are necessary. Excellent communication skills both written and oral are required. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, be adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions. Must be able to represent Laboratory Medicine in a respectful, professional and courteous manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience performing phlebotomy and working with Ortho Chemistry analyzer, ACL Elite pro, XNL-550, ID-MTS Gel, Clinitek Advantus and Meditech LIS. St Paul will implement EPIC LIS in Launch 7 (Nov 2023).
