PEI Community Navigators, a program administered by West Prince Ventures Limited, welcomes newcomers and new residents with open arms to Rural PEI because that is the Island way! PEI Community Navigators are growing our team and seeking to hire Community Navigators for three locations: Western PEI, Eastern PEI, and Central PEI.

Community Navigators play a vital role in promoting integration, retention, and community support for newcomers in Rural PEI. As a Community Navigator, you will be responsible for providing information, settlement assistance, and support to new residents, coordinating collaborative events, establishing networks, and advocating for the needs of both newcomers and the community. Your work will contribute to the creation of welcoming communities and the smooth transition of newcomers into the region.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct information and orientation sessions for new residents, providing and connecting them with comprehensive settlement services
  • Develop settlement plans and support to rural employers to facilitate the successful integration of newcomers
  • Coordinate collaborative events to connect newcomers with community stakeholders, as determined by committee members
  • Establish and maintain a database of stakeholders, new residents, and other contacts in the Rural Region served, including Eastern, Central, and Western PEI
  • Advocate for community and newcomers by supporting organizations and municipalities in addressing their needs
  • Provide direct support to newcomers and community organizations, identifying their needs and making referrals for specialized services with community partners
  • Create and implement tools and services for newcomers, such as welcome packages and regional profiles
  • Support community and businesses in retention initiatives to enhance newcomers’ long-term integration and satisfaction
  • Establish and create a network of champions in the region, matching newcomers with established families for additional support
  • Educate local residents on the value of newcomers to the region, promoting a welcoming and inclusive community
  • Identify multicultural training opportunities to enhance cultural competency among stakeholders
  • Identify gaps in services in rural regions of PEI for attracting and retaining newcomers
  • Track and record project activities, outcomes, and progress, and provide reports to the Executive Director, steering committee, and funding partners
  • Attend committee meetings and take meeting minutes to ensure effective communication and collaboration

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree/ diploma in Social Sciences, Social Work, Business or similar educational background with a minimum of three years of relevant experience or any combination of equivalent experience and education
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication (both written and verbal) skills
  • Demonstrated relationship-building and community connections skills
  • Excellent partnership-building skills
  • Possess cultural humility in working with a diverse client and employee group
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Self-starter and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Thorough knowledge of Rural PEI
  • Experience working with volunteers will be an asset
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector will be an asset
  • Ability to travel
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Flexibility to work outside of standard core hours

PEI Community Navigators will provide an annual salary between $46,800.00-$54,600.00 based on a 37.5-hour work week, with a competitive benefits package included.
