We are looking for a Construction Manager at our Walker Construction - Grey-Bruce location.

Construction Manager


The Construction Manager’s prime responsibility is to ensure the safeguarding of all Company assets including but not limited to property, materials, tools, vehicles, and equipment; as well as non-material assets such as financial health, cost controls, daily billing, employee relations, business customer relationships, residential citizens and community good will.


The Construction Manager is expected to lead by example in all areas of the business as outlined below:


Leadership Expectations:


  • Oversee and ensure all projects and activities follow Walker Health and Safety Policies.
  • Make decisions that will benefit Walker and Walker Construction - Grey-Bruce, staff and customers
  • Continually improve the operation through creativity, delegation and mentoring of subordinates and set clear expectations for quality of workmanship
  • Promote a safe and professional work environment with business appropriate behavior which includes business appropriate language as well as fair and equal treatment of all staff
  • Work cooperatively with other business units, employees, and brokers to maximize company resources and efficiencies through the sharing of both equipment and people as workload demand changes across regions
  • Work cooperatively with clients and customers including in-person meetings (office & field), conference calls, and timely electronic communication
  • Excel at managing competing priorities
  • Provide daily progress updates to the General Manager

Employee Relations:


  • Oversee all Supervisors, Foremen, Lead Hands and indirectly Field personnel
  • Schedule crews to complete projects on time and in a cost effective manner including daily updates of the dispatching of resources
  • Coordination with Supervisors, Foremen, Lead Hands and field personnel of locates, material, staff and equipment
  • Responsible for the identifying of safety and operational training needs for employees, and notifying management in a timely manner to schedule in advance
  • Forward records of safety to office and administrator daily
  • Oversee formal investigations of ‘on-duty’ injuries, motor vehicle incidents, near misses, utility damages or any other type of incident and prepare necessary documentation as per Legislated requirements.
  • Hold direct reports accountable for accepted quality standards of all clients and customers of Walker and Walker Construction - Grey-Bruce
  • Identify recruitment needs and notify Management in a timely manner of needs accordingly

Financial Expectations:


  • Responsible for the financial results in regards to labour burden and cost of goods burden as it pertains to each project and or crew.
  • Identify and remove unnecessary costs from the business, and projects to ensure that daily cost controls are in place
  • Oversee accuracy of time sheets submitted against projects to allow for accurate capture of manpower costs for billing
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with the job specific contract units and what is and is not included in the Contracts Base Scope
  • Right size crews and equipment to achieve the most efficiency on all projects
  • Set clear expectations for daily production goals of crews
  • Document quality results through daily journal and pictures of finished work
  • Notify General Manager of the needs regarding the fleet and machinery maintenance by meeting expectations for daily vehicle inspections as per COR

The Construction Manager is an integral member of operations team at Walker Construction - Grey-Bruce and as such is expected to represent the company in a professional manner in all dealings with the customer, employees, fellow managers and the public.


The Construction Manager must lead by example in all aspects of the job and keep senior management updated with current events.


Ultimately, The Construction Manager should possess the expertise and ability to operate autonomously and successfully with little to no direct supervision.
