As a key member of the Store Management Leadership Team, reporting to the Store Manager, the Department Manager, Hardware is responsible for contributing to the overall operational success of the store. This includes, but not limited to: supervising and facilitating the daily operations of the hardware department, staff scheduling, supervision, customer satisfaction, product quality assurance, store maintenance, inventory management, personnel policies and procedures, marketing and advertising, security systems and enforcement measures, health & safety and ensuring a clean and safe store environment.

Job Duties:

· Supervise and facilitate the daily operations of the hardware department

· Actively promote team synergy and provide operational support to all other departments as needed, to ensure effective and efficient store operations

· Active contributions to the store team that maintain and advance operations by initiating, coordinating, monitoring, enforcing EPLS policies, procedures and operational processes

· Assist with scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results and maintains store staff performance by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results

· Assist with recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees within the hardware department

· Scheduled sharing with Store Leadership Team, Store “On Call Duties”, for the purpose of providing store access for trades persons requiring parts outside of normal store hours

· Assist contractors with daily sales and orders

· Scheduled sharing with Store Leadership Team, responsibilities for opening and closing the store

· Responsible for meeting financial objectives for the department by following annual budgets; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; and initiating corrective actions

· Greet and assist customers in a way that models exemplary conduct to other staff

· Identify current and future customer requirements by establishing rapport with potential and actual customers and other persons in a position to understand service requirements

· Ensure availability of merchandise and services; oversees and assists with inventory management

· Assist with planning, coordination, and merchandising of hardlines and building supplies

· Proactive communication with Purchasing team members to ensure optimum levels of product are identified and executed

· Assist with data base management: reconciling physical counts with computer data and resolve discrepancies; Apply product codes, labels, price labels, price tags, etc. for identification/control and POS scanning

· Protect employees and customers by providing a safe and clean store environment and ensuring all health, safety and security regulations are adhered to and required standards are met

· Contribute to a total team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

· Some travel may be required

· Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the store manager or delegate

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary education in industry related field
  • Knowledge of lumber, building material and tools is a definite asset
  • 5+ years of experience in a retail environment
  • 2+ years of experience in a supervisory role in industry specific environment is an asset
  • Good time management and prioritizing skills
  • Demonstrate ability to train and motivate staff
  • Experience in monitoring and assessing staff performance
  • Basic office administration skills
  • Professional, responsive and possess a positive work attitude
  • Good computer literacy and skilled in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written
  • Strong customer service and troubleshooting skills
  • Well-defined sense of diplomacy
  • Excellent teamwork and team building skills
  • Must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to work in various temperatures
  • Able to work a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends
  • An understanding of applicable legislation such as heath & safety, employment laws etc.

· Able to pass the required background and credit checks

Salary: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
