Job Overview

As an integral part of the Engineering and Design Department, the Design & Drafting Technologist will be responsible for design and drafting activities including creating, evaluating, and maintaining 3D CAD models and technical drawings. Additionally, they will be responsible for the proper maintenance and updating of engineering records per company standards.

Reports to: Engineering Supervisor

Supervises: None

Internal Contacts: Engineering team, production supervisors, production workers, management.

External Contacts: Parts suppliers

Key Responsibilities

Design, Engineering, Drafting:

  • Design and drafting of Hydrovac truck mounted equipment, components, and systems.
  • Design and drafting of manufacturing aids including jigs and fixtures as related to manufacturing improvements.
  • Utilize Autodesk Inventor CAD software to create 3D models and technical drawings.
  • Assist with design validations by employing technical calculations and documentation.
  • Update engineering documentations and specifications as per company procedures and policy.
  • Develop and provide engineering documents to departments as required.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist with research and development products.
  • Participate in the design-review process.
  • Other duties and tasks as required.

Qualifications

Experience:

The ideal candidate will provide demonstrable experience in the following areas:

  • 1-5 years practical experience in Engineering design and/or manufacturing
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD):
  • Exceptional 3D modeling abilities (Autodesk Inventor an asset)
  • FEA experience an asset.
  • Autodesk Factory Design suite and Navisworks an asset.
  • Experience with ERP software an asset.
  • Experience with PLM software an asset.
  • Foundational computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), as well as file management and data entry.

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technologist Diploma.

Certifications:

  • Registered or able to register with APEGA or ASET.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time workload based on a 40-hour work week.
  • Possible work from home including flexible hours / days.
  • Frequent visits to the manufacturing facility. Safety footwear is required; additional PPE will be provided.
