The McMichael Canadian Art Collection ranks among Canada’s top public galleries in size and significance. The gallery, exhibition, and programming space are surrounded by a network of outdoor trails, a sculpture garden and 100 acres of conservation land with breathtaking views of the Humber Valley. The permanent collection comprises 6,500 works of Canadian art, and the gallery welcomes an average of more than 110,000 visitors annually.

The McMichael Canadian Art Collection also houses the Cape Dorset Archive of the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative, an important visual record of the formative decades of this unique, world-renowned artmaking community. The McMichael will be digitizing the Archive to be catalogued and shared on a dedicated website.

The McMichael is seeking a Digitization Project Supervisor to work on the premises of Think2Thing (T2T) at their Toronto location at King and Spadina, to handle artworks during the above noted photo-documentation process and record cataloguing information according to museum standards. Training will be provided at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg.

This position is funded by Canadian Heritage through the Museum Assistance Program’s Access to Digital Heritage component. Hours of work are expected to be 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Rate of pay is $25.00/hour.

Qualified candidates will have 1-3 years’ experience in registration/collections management/art handling, with the completion of post-secondary Education in museum studies and/or collections management. Related experience in digitization projects, photography, archive documentation, or art handling would be considered an asset. Attention to detail and organizational skills are crucial to success in the role. The position will be the lead role with two other staff supporting, and Supervisory experience is an asset.
