With over 200 employees and 100 volunteers, CLSL currently provides supports and services to more than 300 participants and their families that promote individual choice and life goal achievement. Position Summary:
CLSL is seeking part-time Assistant Support Counsellors to assist in our Behavioural residential locations and will assist participants with complex needs to achieve their personal goals and outcomes, foster independence and enable them to actively participate in all aspects of community life. This position will:

  • Must be able to work comfortably alone as well as in a team environment
  • Assist in implementing behavioural support plans and skill acquisition programs to reduce risk behavior
  • Supporting individuals displaying risk behaviour while remaining calm and using Non-Violent Crisis Intervention strategies
  • Model appropriate behaviour, provide positive reinforcement and corrective feedback as needed
  • Assist with activities of daily living and/or of personal care and promote interpersonal and social skills, leisure and community participation, independence, and self-esteem
  • Assist with administration of medication, health treatments and medical appointments, as needed
  • Advocate for and ensure participants’ rights, dignity, well-being, and protection from harm
  • Facilitate the involvement of family, volunteer, and natural supports for participants
  • Completion and follow up of data collection and documentation, as required

Position Requirements:

  • Preferred education in developmental disabilities or human services (e.g., DSW, SSW, CYW, ECE, FSW, PSW) OR a Developmental Services Worker Apprenticeship program is available through CLSL
  • Training in sign language, intervenor supports, G-tube feeding, or mental health interventions, considered an asset
  • Preferred previous experience in various support setting(s) with proven ability to support persons who have autism, developmental disability, dual diagnosis, physical and sensory challenges, or who are medically fragile or technically dependent
  • Valid “G” Driver’s License and use of a personal vehicle for transport of individuals, as necessary
  • Current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. certificate, C.P.I. Certification, or be willing to obtain upon hire
  • A clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector screening

Hours of Work: Guaranteed hours plus opportunities for additional shifts (may include days, afternoons, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays)
