They are looking for a Director, External Reporting & Accounting Policy who will be responsible for meeting financial reporting and disclosure requirements for annual and quarterly filings as set out by the securities commissions or contractual requirements.

About the Opportunity
  • Accounting Policies & Standards Advisory: Provide accounting policy and financial support, counsel and advice to various business unit controllers and leaders. Be the main point of contact for the company’s complex and technical accounting advice. Lead a resource team that provides actuarial support to finance, HR and other business groups.
  • Prepare Annual / Quarterly Financial Statement, MD&A, AIF and New Releases: Prepare annual and quarterly financial statements, MD&A, News Release, AIF and other information used for external reporting purposes and any other documents required to be prepared for the Audit/Risk committee and the Board of Directors and information filed with external bodies such as the Ontario Securities Commission. Includes preparation of fund financial statements (nuclear and pension). Review, prepare and comment on the company’s (and subsidiary) annual and quarterly financial statements, which have been prepared for external reporting purposes under applicable GAAP.
  • Develop Business Relationships: Maintain and develop relationships with multiple stakeholders across the business and externally with consultants, external auditors, and industry partners. Engage in providing accounting and implementation advice.
  • Regulatory Finance: Support the company’s regulatory processes providing evidence (both written and oral) and supporting responses to questions received during the application process. Work with the company’s regulatory finance and taxation groups to determine the impact of regulatory decisions and ongoing reporting requirements.
  • Accounting Developments & Analysis: Review accounting developments and related external analysis, and review and finalize internal analysis and comment letters on exposure drafts. Monitor the development and oversee the implementation of new accounting and regulatory requirements.
  • GAAP Conversion: Led and project manage the company’s conversion from Canadian GAAP to US GAAP. Maintain responsibilities for project management, training and communications in association with the conversation.
  • Accounting & Financial Policies and Processes: Review corporate accounting and financial policies and processes that comply with external reporting requirements and US GAAP. Implement new accounting requirement and regulatory requirements (primarily the Ontario Securities Commission)
  • Complex & Technical Accounting: Work closely with the Company's external auditor to resolve non-routine and complex accounting and finance-related issues.
  • Team Development & Management: Provide strategic direction, mentoring and development, supervising a team, ensuring strong performance and adherence to the company’s corporate behaviours and values. At the same time, continuing to build engagement.

About You
  • CPA
  • 8 years of progressive experience in technical accounting, external reporting, or external audit. Extensive experience and knowledge in reviewing and preparing external financial reports, press releases, annual information form ("AIF"), financial statements and management discussion & analysis ("MD&A") for various users, including regulatory bodies, rating agencies, lenders, and shareholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS, identifying key issues and assessing alternative solutions.

Salary Range
$130,000 - $170,000/year
