Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Facilities Management and Development, the Director Facilities Management, is responsible for the strategic planning, leadership, support and improving the programs within the Facilities Management team. The successful candidate will create a climate where people are motivated to do their best to support organizational objectives. They will be a critical thinker capable of making sense of complex, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve issues, be able to prioritize the work of the department to align with organizational objectives and gain the confidence and trust of colleagues and stakeholders through honesty, integrity, and authenticity.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a proven record of accomplishment of leading both hard and soft facility management services, have experience in the development of proactive strategies for routine and preventative maintenance and possess an elevated level of competency in terms of effective planning and prioritization of work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals.

In addition, Facilities Management supports the planning and development of the major maintenance program by providing input on facilities condition, deterioration rates and risks and functional impacts of building systems failure. This input is also key in developing funding requests for major maintenance and renewal. An important requirement of this position and the staff in the section is to be sensitive to the needs and concerns of the NAIT community and to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders.

The ideal candidate should have proven experience in facilities management, strong leadership and communication skills, and knowledge of building maintenance and safety regulations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the team that oversees the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment.
  • Establishing processes for facilities management, including planning, budgeting, and project management.
  • Overseeing the upkeep and improvement of facilities to ensure they meet the organization's needs.
  • Managing the integration of technology into facilities management processes.
  • Planning and budgeting for facilities management activities.
  • Project management, including the coordination of contractors and vendors.
  • Effective communication and coordination with the NAIT community and other stakeholders.
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting to resolve any issues that arise.
  • Building strong relationships with the NAIT community and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth operation of facilities.
  • Implementing risk management processes to ensure the safety and security of facilities and their users.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and standards.
  • Promoting environmental sustainability in facilities management practices.
  • Analyzing data and producing reports to measure the effectiveness of facilities management activities.


Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven experience in change management, risk management and strategic planning and people management.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Make sense of complex, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve issues
  • Progressive experience in a medium to large organization with a diverse building portfolio
  • Knowledge of Facility Management, Building Automation Systems, HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing systems, Occupational Health and Safety Administration and Asbestos Management.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in facilities management, engineering, or a related field required.
  • Certification / license as a Professional Engineer or Certified Engineering Technologist.
  • Project management certification [e.g., PMP (Project Management Professional)] is desirable.


Remuneration
: $4,735.60 - $6,273.98 biweekly, plus a comprehensive benefits package (classification – O23).
