The Role

Reporting to the President, the Director of Operations will oversee the management of the Warehouse, Client Services, Procurement, and Logistics. This position is responsible for effectively planning, directing, and coordinating all functions for the Operations Department. In addition, they will embrace a collaborative approach to identify projects and opportunities to improve efficacy, enlisting other stakeholders who may possess complementary skills and experience to assist in the strategic implementation and successful execution.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees all aspects of the organization's processes, including warehouse, client services, procurement, logistics, shipping and receiving, maintenance and facilities, and special projects.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with vendors.
  • Assess, design, and implement new strategies and initiatives that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position.
  • Creates, directs, and communicates various policies, procedures, and programs essential to standard operations procedures (warehousing, shipping, inventory management, training, cost reduction, worker involvement, security, and safety).
  • Identifies projects related to operations, consistent with the company's goals and objectives and necessary to improve the organization's competitiveness in the marketplace.
  • Communicate efficiently with the President, other department heads, direct reports, and other key stakeholders to ensure effective communication of corporate mandates, strategies, and other objectives.
  • Acts as liaison between crucial departments to inform personnel of communications, decisions, policies, and all matters that effect their performance, attitudes, and results.
  • Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and follows company policy.
  • Provides recommendations for revisions or enhancements to schedules, resource allocation and delivery requirements.
  • Reviews financial budgets for Operations Department and supporting departments.
  • Participates in the annual strategic planning and budgeting to develop plans supporting business development and corporate initiatives.
  • Monitor and review the performance of direct reports, and provide prompt and objective coaching, mentoring, and counselling. Resolve performance, job satisfaction, and interpersonal issues, balancing employee and department needs.
  • Participate in improving Human Resource processes, including hiring, training, development, and staff evaluation.

Must Haves

  • 10+ years experience in a wholesale distribution environment as a senior operations manager or equivalent
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite with an advanced application of Excel
  • University Degree required and Professional designation optional
  • Understanding of the contemporary operational methodologies, including Lean Six Sigma, Internal vs. External Customers, Service Design, Change Management, Cultural Shifts, and Benchmarking.
  • Proficiency in English [Written & Verbal communication] required

Considered an Asset

  • Experience with SAGE 300 ERP
  • Knowledge of "NetStock" Inventory Management' Cloud Based' considered an asset
