DISTRICT COORDINATOR – ABORIGINAL EDUCATION

Applications are invited for the position of District Coordinator – Aboriginal Education . This is a

1.0 FTE Term Certain position effective September 1, 2023 to January 31, 2024, or full return of

the incumbent. The successful application will work as part of the Aboriginal Education Services

team.

This is a position of Special Responsibility and will be filled by competition.

Responsibilities of District Coordinators include:
? Leading district curriculum implementation initiatives;

? Planning, organizing and implementing district based in-service opportunities;

? Coordinating the organization and dissemination of information from the Ministry;

? Recommending implementation strategies to the Superintendent’s office;

? Pursuing and acquiring grants, alternative funding and additional resources;

? Consultation with support staff, teachers, counselors, district staff and administrators;

? Collaboration with other district coordinators on key district initiatives;

? Liaison with personnel from other school districts;

? Providing onsite support and assistance to classroom teachers;

? Assisting schools in the design and implementation of school based staff development

activities;

? Participating in district committees;

? Other related duties as assigned by the District Principal – Aboriginal Education.

Primary Focus: Aboriginal Education

? Implements evidence-based Aboriginal learning programming;

? Development of curriculum resources on Aboriginal content and pedagogue;

? Leading district initiatives in Aboriginal Education;

? Coordinating district wide services for students with diverse needs;

? Collaboratively solving problems and developing strategies to assist district staff in working with

Aboriginal student’s needs;

? Leading teachers and school support workers in Aboriginal learning initiatives;

? Consultation with teachers and administrators;

? Accessing resource people and materials;

? Providing ongoing supports and in Aboriginal pedagogue, district events and activities;

? Assisting tracking and monitoring Aboriginal student achievement;

? Liaison with appropriate community agencies;

? Providing and supporting district in-service for teachers and school support workers;

? Provides information on student needs to the District Principal - Aboriginal Education

Qualifications:
? A Master Degree or equivalent experience in education or related field;

? Extensive background and experience in Aboriginal communities and culture and in education

K-12;

? An exemplary teaching record;

? Exemplary collaborative and consultation skills;

? A broad knowledge of learning strategies and teaching techniques;

? Strong organizational skills;

? Exceptional interpersonal communication skills;

? A commitment to teamwork;

? BC Teaching Certificate;

? Valid driver’s license.
