12 hour shifts (7 days on / 7 days off / 7 nights on / 7 days off)


Primary Purpose

Safely and efficiently tram and operate rotary or top hammer drilling equipment to bore large blast holes .

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ability to conduct pre and post operational checks, complete equipment log books and maintain accurate drill and bit records.
  • Drive and operate tracked or truck-mounted rotary drilling, air-track or other drilling machines to bore large blast holes to specified depths at staked positions in open-pit mine or quarry.
  • Operate drilling machines to drill blast holes in rock at road or other construction sites.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Minimum of 2+ years' operating rotary and/or hammer drill safely in an open pit mining or quarry environment, a prerequisite.
  • Experience in Sandvik D90Ks, or Pit Viper 271 or 275, or Sandvik D7-75 or Sandvik DML or similar equipment. The similarity will be determined by Conuma Coal.
  • Experience operating Terex 5000, or T40 or similar is considered an asset.
  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of maximizing production while minimizing contamination.
  • Commitment and ability to learn from others and adopt best practices while maintaining a strong focus on safety, integrity and reliability.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with peers, trainees, and supervision.
  • Self-motivated and be able to work with minimal supervision while working under pressure.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • First Aid/Mine Rescue Training is considered an asset.
  • Physically fit with the ability to perform physical labor and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Applicants must have completed English up to Grade 10 or CLB 4
  • Willingness to learn.
