Reporting to the Foreman, the Driller is responsible for operating drilling equipment. Duties include locating, staking and drilling holes in rock and overburden and ensure all safety requirements, regulations and procedures are followed for drill activities.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and operate tracked or truck-mounted rotary drilling, air-track or other drilling machines (Sandvik Ranger DX800) to bore large blast holes to specified depths at staked positions in open-pit mine or quarry
  • Operate drilling machines to drill rock dowels or hollow bars in overburden.
  • Operate tracked or truck-mounted drill equipped with auger or other attachment to drill holes for building foundations or pilings
  • Ensure all equipment is accounted for daily
  • Ensure sufficient supplies are gathered for the day
  • Maintenance and care of all assigned equipment
  • Complete all necessary paperwork
  • Active participation in all safety/tailgate meetings
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good knowledge of math principles
  • Must be mechanically inclined
  • Work well with other crew members
  • High regard for safety
  • Must be team player and must be willing to participate in company safety and production requirements
  • Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy
  • Familiarity with active construction sites
  • Able to pass any pre-access screening, including a Drug and Alcohol test

Experience and Qualifications

  • Must have previous operating experience on the Sandvik Ranger DX800
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Minimum of 5 years’ drilling experience, construction or quarry environment

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be physically fit and able to work in remote camp locations
  • Outdoor work subject to extreme weather changes
  • Must be willing to work 12-hour shifts, day and night
  • Physically able to work outdoors performing hard labour tasks
  • Must be able to work access/board equipment in areas with uneven ground or snow or soft-ground/surface water

Please Note: This is a site-based position located at the Site C Dam in Fort St. John, British Columbia. Preference will be given to qualified, local candidates. However, we will also consider fly in/out candidates based out of Vancouver, Nanaimo, Kelowna, Calgary, or Edmonton. Rotational employees are required to work a 14/7 rotation; flights and camp accommodations are provided while on shift.
