Driver in Training Role Highlights
Successful candidates will be trained in the Tiger Trucking yard as shunters to prepare the candidate for the 6-week driver training course, pre-trip inspections, backing into docks and parking spots, and to get to know the general movement of towing a trailer.

The training course is conducted by the Crossroads Truck Training Academy (one of the top five schools in Ontario offering the Mandatory Entry Level Training program!), and will be paid for by Giant Tiger. The course includes; two weeks of in-class training and Air Brake endorsement, followed by four weeks of daily in-cab truck driving.

Candidates will have to pass the Crossroads Truck Training Academy Course, and the MTO Road Test, and then they will continue their driver training as shunters in the Johnstown Tiger Trucking yard for 6-8 months. Once training is complete and all parties are satisfied with the skill level of the Driver in Training, the Driver In Training will begin to make longer runs to our Giant Tiger stores, and begin their new career as an AZ Driver with Giant Tiger!

The starting hourly rate for this role is $24.15 per hour. A fully licenced AZ driver will also have the option for overtime hours, overnight bonus payments, and access to Giant Tiger’s bonus and DPSP programs.

The shift for this role is Thursday-Saturday and alternating Wednesdays from 6:00pm to 6:00am. There is no overnight premium for this role.

Driver in Training Role Requirements
The internal candidate posting policy applies to this application. Internal candidates must be in good standing with Health and Safety and HR to apply.

Minimum age to operate the truck is 25 years old, and the candidate must have a clean drivers abstract.

Successful graduates of the program will commit to two year of service with Tiger Trucking as part of the job offer. Failure to do so will result in having to pay back the cost of the courses.

Prior to enrollment in the Crossroads Truck Training Academy course, the candidate will have to pass the MTO physical exam.

Candidates must be able to arrange their own travel to the Crossroads Truck Training Academy and there are two location options: Ottawa or Smiths Falls.
