We are currently seeking a couple to manage our educational farm and ranch (KIDD RANCH) whom will act as the main coordinator for hosting the Kidd Ranch train excursions. Along with the responsibility of regular yard/ground maintenance and up-keep at the ranch, you will be liable for the day to day care of all the animals. Within this responsibility, you will be the team lead with some Human Resources (HR) responsibilities including but not limited to scheduling, conflict resolution, daily chore lists, care of the animals, report and coordinate veterinary visits if required. You will also be expected to maintain feed records and report on the well being of the animals. You will be involved in the day to day activities of the ranch and on the scheduled days of the train excursion, an ambassador for the ranch.

Key Technical Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience with the operations of farming/ranching
  • Extensive knowledge of farming/ranching practices and history of the Alberta prairies
  • Adhere to good housekeeping to ensure a clean and safe environment for animals and appealing to visiting guests
  • Ability to keep good records
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and advise on animal requirements
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs repeatedly through an entire shift
  • Must be able to walk, stand, or crouch for long periods of time and carry out strenuous physical tasks
  • Excellent trouble shooting and analytical skills
  • Self directed, with the ability to work successfully both independently and within a team environment
  • Willing to assist supervisor in other work-related tasks
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, and good interpersonal skills that create ability to work successfully with diverse groups within a team environment
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Dependable with a good attendance and safety record
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Able to work evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Other knowledge such as the ability to operate power equipment (skid steer, lawn tractor, chain saw etc.) is beneficiary
