Work Location: Human Resource Services, Education Centre - Aurora (60 Wellington Street West, Aurora, ON L4G 3H2)

Salary: $78,497 - $93,825

  • Two (2) permanent positions are available effective immediately
  • One (1) term position is available effective July 1, 2023 and will end on or about August 31, 2024

The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) supports a flexible working culture and currently provides the opportunity for employees to work from home in addition to working in the office for some positions. The YRDSB implemented a Working From Home Guidelines to facilitate this work option.

In compliance with Board policies and procedures, is responsible for supporting the labour relation matters within any assigned bargaining units. The Employee Relations Officer also participates in the administration of collective agreements and Board policies and procedures; assists in the research, development and implementation of human resources policies, procedures and programs.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • To provide consultative services and support to line managers and other staff on Labour and Employee Relations Matters and processes while ensuring compliance of governing agency regulations, legislation, Collective Agreements and other contractual obligations and expectations.
  • To support the grievance process, including preparing and presenting at Step 3 grievances and participating in arbitration and Human Rights Litigations.
  • To build and maintain a professional and effective Labour/Management relationship through the regular contact with Union Leaders and Representatives and negotiating in house settlements to disputes.
  • To formulate relevant correspondence related to employee relations and human resources, such as correspondence to Managers, Administrators, employees, legal representatives and union representatives etc. To provide advice and guidance to ensure collective agreements and Board Policies and Procedures are correctly interpreted and adhered to.
  • To conduct investigations and in consultation with Managers and Administrators issue findings including issuing discipline and resolving employee issues, concerns and complaints.
  • To research, review, recommend and implementation of Human Resources related policies, procedures and programs.
  • To research and manage legal, legislative, operational requirements, best practices and client needs in order to provide appropriate and timely human resources related services to the system.
  • To provide support during the collective bargaining process as required
  • To coordinate and develop reports, presentations, briefings, etc. as required. To lead, attend and participate in meetings and/or committees as requested. To perform other duties as assigned.

LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible to the Manager, Employee Relations.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A three year university degree or college diploma in human resources management or equivalent experience, as approved by the Board, is required.
  • Minimum five years in human resources is required which must include a minimum of one year direct labour relations experience in the duties outlined above in a unionized environment.
  • CHRP (L) (Certified Human Resources Professional/ Leader) is considered an asset.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal and computer skills are required.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a variety of individuals and groups both within and outside the Board is required.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have access to own transportation.

Important Information for CUPE 1734 Members:

As per the Collective Agreement (A.11.7 and A.11.8), those twelve month employees filling vacancies as a result of a job posting are to remain twelve months at their positions. Ten month employees are to remain in their position until the end of the school year.
