Estimator / Project Lead Position

Skills Required:

  • Must be a person of integrity, who represents themselves well and is respected by peers.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in estimating and construction industry experience, particularly bridge construction is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Able to maintain a positive work atmosphere by communicating effectively with customers, contractors, coworkers, suppliers, and supervisors.
  • Experience in preparing estimates for concrete and structural steel components.
  • Strong ability to read and accurately interpret blueprints/design drawings, plans, and other relevant documentation.
  • Able to talk with customers confidently and respectfully with a goal to help them accomplish their projects successfully.
  • Ability to manage a project from concept to completion.
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask estimates, contracts and projects to ensure success of each even in the midst of changing priorities with the ability to work extra hours if needed to meet deadlines.
  • Conduct project reviews upon project completion in order to identify areas for improvement; make recommendations based on findings.
  • Should have strong negotiating and closing skills.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately complete estimates and take offs on a project including labour, parts, materials, coatings, etc.
  • Review contracts documents, specifications, and addendums to understand and determine requirements when bidding (Provincial Specifications, contractual requirements, bonding and insurance requirement, Prime Contract, etc.) and monitor until tender is closed.
  • Transition an estimated project into a completed project, on time and budget.
  • Prepare tender documents for submission to clients following strict deadlines.
  • Receive, review and accept quotes and contracts from suppliers.
  • Generate schedules for projects and oversee them.
  • Proactively look for improvement opportunities for estimating and managing projects.
  • Work with external professionals and project managers to coordinate and complete projects.
  • Contribute to a strong team environment through collaboration and teamwork.
  • Anticipate project conflicts, plan preventative action plans, and implement solutions to avoid potential issues.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Some travel may be required.
