POSITION: Facilities and Housing Supervisor

JOB OVERVIEW: Under the direction of the Director of Capital and Infrastructure, the Facilities and Housing Supervisor (FHS) is primarily responsible for the supervision of all activities and staff for all of the Nation’s facility and housing projects and programs. They will be responsible for updating of housing databases for the Nation and supervision of the housing carpentry crew and maintenance workers.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide information, assessments and assistance to the Director with budgets, supporting financial initiatives and forecasting.
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of all aspects of the daily operation and maintenance of the Facilities and Housing unit; including the work of contractors in accordance with the terms and conditions of approved contracts.
  • Assists in the administration of annual operating and capital budgets needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Assess nature of housing concerns or problems, i.e., plumbing, painting, electrical, flooring, windows etc.
  • Provide maintenance on all Nation facilities and homes and ensure repairs/construction are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that estimates/quotes on materials; forecast cost for materials and labour cost for project are completed by the appropriate professional and submitted for approval.
  • Ensure delivery of materials and supplies to the job sites.
  • Keep current on changing legislation, building codes, worksite safety and case law as it pertains to the Department.
  • Present a positive and professional image of the office of the DCN Chief to all visitors, staff, government officials, inquiries, and other interactions.
  • Fully comply with all DCN policies, procedures, health safety, and PPE protocols including the fitness for duty policy stipulating zero-tolerance for being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 Diploma with Carpentry Apprenticeship or Journeyman status.
  • 2+ years of supervision experience overseeing Housing functions, including but not limited to, planning, operations, and land development.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the legislation and policies that affect the Department, including familiarity with municipal law, insurance and employee relations.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal relations, oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to train, lead and energize multi-level work teams.
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills, and proficiency in supervising a various number of employees.
  • Well-developed public relations skills: ability to handle potential situations of conflict and to resolve conflicts through problem solving and dispute resolution tactics.
  • Proficient use with computer software applications (Windows, MS Office).
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, with the ability to provide an up-to-date drivers abstract.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered to meet the requirements of the position
  • Criminal record and Child Intervention record checks will be required at time of interview.
