What You Will Get To Do

By effectively building positive rapport and relationships both internally and externally, the successful candidate will help us achieve our mission that together we deliver services that make a difference in our community.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Facilities, under the direction of the Working Foreman - Facilities, the Facilities Attendant is responsible for:
  • monitoring refrigeration plant readings and recording operating conditions of the refrigeration plant in log books;

  • assessing and maintaining ice surfaces by resurfacing, edging, chipping, cutting down corners and measuring ice depths;

  • providing training, advice and direction to part-time maintenance staff; operating an ice resurfacing machine, light motorized vehicles or other related equipment as required;

  • maintaining a clean and safe environment by cleaning floors, carpets, windows, and washrooms, emptying garbage receptacles, disposing of garbage into bulk storage and ensuring entrances/exits and walkways are clear of litter, debris, snow and other obstacles;

  • under the direction of the working foreman performing general repairs, and basic equipment maintenance;

  • providing customer service by responding to public and staff inquiries, working to resolve customer concerns and assisting rental/permit grounds with their needs;

  • mitigating risks and ensuring the safety of all users and staff at the facility;

  • conducting pool readings as required;

  • using heavy equipment, performing heavy lifting, and/or ladder climbing may also be required; and

  • other duties as assigned.

What You Bring To Our Team

As the successful applicant, you must possess:
  • a Secondary School Graduation Diploma with the completion of a two (2) year building trades or technical certificate or diploma at the community college level;

  • a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a recreation facility;

  • a minimum of one (1) year experience in the operation and maintenance of an ammonia plant refrigeration system;

  • a Refrigeration Operators’ Certificate (Class “B”) maintained in good standing;

  • a valid Class "G" Driver's Licence maintained in good standing;

  • current certification in CPR/AED (Level C) and Emergency First Aid;

  • current certifications in Certified Pool Operator; Building Maintenance and Operations; and Safe Ice Resurfacer Operator, maintained in good standing, preferred;

  • knowledge of building operating systems, refrigeration system, pool operations, basic electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry and use of various hand/power tools;

  • able to do heavy/strenuous physical labour under varying weather conditions; and

  • a valid criminal record check to work with vulnerable individuals.
