Position Scope:

The Facilities Supervisor is responsible for leading the Maintenance Department in achieving departmental and organizational goals and is accountable for the day-to-day operations and activities of the Team Members involved in the installation, maintenance and servicing of all machinery, and facility-related systems. The incumbent will collaboratively lead the CAPEX process pertaining to those projects requiring Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews, and remains current with industry trends in maintenance, processes, and utilization of technology, while operating within annual budget forecasts, ensuring the plant is and remains in compliance with the OHSA.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, On-site 7:00am - 3:30pm (Flexible)

Responsibilities:

People

  • Interacts in a professional and helpful manner with internal and external customers and Team Members.
  • Is an active team player in identifying improvement opportunities and/or solving departmental or company issues by communicating openly, listening to others, and focusing on the identification of the root cause of an issue and taking steps to prevent future reoccurrence.
  • Always acts with the safety of all Team Members at the forefront, correcting unsafe operations or environments immediately and/or bringing them to the attention of the Plant Manager
  • Treats all Team Members with respect . . . “If in doubt, check it out” . . . always clarifies situations with those involved, dealing with disagreements in a mature and trusting manner while focusing on what’s best for the business.
  • Participates in on-the-job or classroom training sessions, and/or provides department support to enable other Team Members’ attendance and participation.
  • Leads and supervises the Maintenance Department Team Members, including coaching, team building, problem solving, training, recruitment, rewarding and any disciplinary actions, ensuring adherence to the Company’s Policies and Procedures, the Employment Standards Act, the Human Rights Code and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Utilizes our Performance Management Process for appraisal and development of direct report Team Members, reviewing the appraisal with the Plant Manager prior to delivery.
  • Identifies through annual performance reviews and regular observation Team Member training needs, arranging, and scheduling these activities and following-up to ensure completion and performance improvement.
  • Maintains timely communication with Senior Management and the Joint Health and Safety Committee regarding health and safety matters.
  • Ensures when working with third party contractors that they undertake their work on company premises in accordance with the company’s Policies and Procedures and the OHSA.

Process

  • Participates in and reinforces the need for interdepartmental communication to ensure all departments are working towards achieving the business’ purpose, values, and annual business goals.
  • Supports Operations efforts by coordinating and executing a company-wide plan for ongoing CAPEX and PSR projects in a prioritized and timely manner ensuring minimal customer (internal and external) impact, involvement of impacted Team Members and appropriate documentation and training.
  • Supports Operational efforts by focusing team resources on the timely completion of the day-to-day activities of the Maintenance Department while responding to emergency situations and continuously undertaking preventative maintenance and/or equipment upgrading activities.
  • Advises and contributes to decisions regarding equipment purchases and or upgrades.
  • Develops and maintains a dynamic five-year Facility Plan.
  • Supervises all trades within the department utilizing a common planned work schedule that provides company prioritization for maintenance work and ensures quality standards are achieved while maximizing the utilization of resources.
  • Installs new machinery and equipment or updates existing machinery or equipment as per drawings and specifications and in compliance with the OHSA.
  • Demonstrates an ability to prioritize maintenance requests to support all departments in meeting our customer needs, making sound and logical decisions that resolve issues and support our Mission and Vision.
  • Displays co-operation, flexibility, and adaptability in a changing environment.
  • Able to react to change productively and participate in other projects or essential tasks as required or assigned.

Performance

  • Performs all duties with minimal errors, within required timeframes and in a manner consistent with established Work Instructions, ISO Procedures and Company Policies.
  • Continuously seeks and shares ways to improve the Company’s EBITDA performance (i.e. cost reduction, quality improvement, improved workplace safety, new products, etc.).
  • In cooperation with other Team Members, supports the timely achievement of fiscal year goals and objectives.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains the Company’s preventative maintenance program to minimize machine downtime, extend machine life and maximize company resources.
  • Never breaches information confidentiality guidelines.
  • Interacts with visitors and third-party suppliers with professionalism and politeness, ensuring the completion of the appropriate confidentiality agreements as required.

Authorities and Impact:

  • Ceases production at any time in any area of the plant for product quality, safety, or environment issues.
  • Recruit and/or promote Team Members in co-operation with the Plant Manager and Human Resources.
  • Serve notice (i.e., caution) as per company Policies and Procedures ensuring that documentation of the event and corrective action is placed in the Team Member’s file and that particulars are communicated to the Plant Manager and Human Resources.
  • Can approve the expenditure of funds up to $5,000 for third party contractor services or parts and supplies advising the Plant Manager of the same.
  • For expenditures over $5,000 receives prior approval from the Plant Manager.
  • Can approve expenses up to $2,500 without prior approval for items within the approved operating budget of the department and up to $1,000 without prior approval for items not in approved budget.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree.
  • Minimum of five years of supervisory experience in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office and department-specific software applications (e.g. MPII, ERP, Specview, Insync).
  • Conversant with the ’s Policies and Procedures Manual, WHMIS, and ISO Procedures.
  • Great attitude, work ethic, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven track record in successfully applying continuous improvement tools.
  • Demonstrated organizational, time and project management skills.
  • Familiarity with the maintenance and cleaning of all plant equipment, mechanical and electrical systems in the plant and office.
  • Conversant with the Employment Standards Act, the Human Rights Code and the OHSA.

Education and Experience:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree.
  • Minimum of five years of supervisory experience in a Manufacturing environment.
