Community Links operates within a community development framework; partnering with community and service providers to address community issues. Community Links provides services to all residents in Airdrie, Beiseker, Crossfield, Irricana, and surrounding areas of North Rocky View. The main office is located in Airdrie, with satellite offices in other communities.

Family Day Home (FDH) strives to enhance the social, physical, intellectual, and emotional development of your child. Family Day Home Consultants screen potential Educators, connect Educators with potential families, and provide on-going monitoring visits to FDH Homes. Consultants organize regular monthly training to enhance the capacity of the Educator and provide access to appropriate resources. Consultants ensure that childcare is following the Government of Alberta Child Care Standards. They are responsible for all necessary paperwork and the process of managing incidents including Critical Incidents.

Key Responsibilities

Program Planning and Management:

  • Ensure quality of care for children placed in a Family Day Home in accordance with Provincial Regulations.
  • Ensure that the assigned Family Day Homes are visited regularly, a minimum of six (6) times per year.
  • Will monitor and complete Family Day Home Visitor/Consultant Checklist for each visit.
  • Maintain cumulative records on parents, children, and Educators. Ensure both Educator and Parent files are current.
  • In addition to monitoring the home, other forms of supervising could include direct observation and interaction (in-person or virtual), phone contact support, group activities outside the home where observations can take place off site.
  • Support, supervision, training and observations of Educators and children consisting of resources, referrals and equipment and toy suggestions.
  • Ensure Educators files are current including, but not limited to, Criminal Record Check, home insurance, car insurance, change of information, etc.
  • Ensure new Educators have undergone the complete interview/screening process prior to opening the Day Home. (Educator checklist is complete.)
  • Ensure Educators have read and understood current safety policies and standards.
  • Ensure Daily Safety Checklists are completed correctly each month. This would include monthly fire drills.
  • Complete Home Safety Screenings twice a year using a CS approved form.
  • Ensure Educators have opportunities to stay current with research and emerging best practices.
  • Support Provincial Program Planning Document in the homes and complete individualized learning plans, goals and training as required.
  • Ensure Educators have completed monthly planning sheets that include a variety in their daily routine including outdoor play options. Review menus monthly to ensure they are following Canada Food Guide recommendations.
  • Ensure annual Educator assessments are completed.
  • Arrange Back-Up Care as required.
  • Carry the emergency (FDH) cell phone when alternate Consultant and Team Lead are away.
  • Act as liaison between Educator and Parent.
  • Maintain contact with Educator and Parent. Contact parents on a regular basis through phone, email, or in person.
  • Help to ensure that the program adheres to all standards of care, ethics and confidentiality as outlined in the Provincial Standards Manual as well as North Rocky View Community Links policies and procedures.
  • Participate in all aspects of service delivery including the promotion, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the FDH Program and services, including reviews of the FDH License. The quality improvement process includes, but is not limited to, contributions to applications and reporting.
  • Help to implement outcome measures to demonstrate effective service to Parents.
  • Ensure that the program focuses on the needs of the community members, both adult and child. This includes referring families to other services and programs when appropriate and advocating to other services on behalf of the family.
  • Assist with the maintenance of toys, resources, and supplies specific to the FDH Program, including ensuring an annual inventory is completed for insurance purposes.
  • Facilitate/coordinate training presentations, groups and workshops that benefit Educators. This may include booking the room, room set up and clean up. Educator training will be documented in the Educator’s training plan. Ensure Educators stay current on required courses. i.e., First Aid.
  • Use computer skills to maintain clear, concise, and current statistical information relevant to position.

Risk Management:

  • Ensure that practice standards are adhered to.
  • Ensure confidentiality of community members accessing programs and services.
  • Understanding of ethics and diversity of the organization.
  • Assist Manager and Team Lead to identify and evaluate the risks to people (community members, staff, and volunteers), property, finances, image and implement measures to control those risks.
  • Home monitoring, incidents, concerns, Educator contact and Parent contact is documented. Parent/Educator contact sheets will be used for documentation.
  • All complaints received about an Educator will be documented on the Family Day Home Educator Complaint Record Form which will be submitted to CS monthly.
  • Timely completion and submission of accident and incident forms when applicable and appropriate follow-up action is taken when necessary, such as contacting Children’s Services to report a critical incident.

Education, Skill Set, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Early Childhood Education Certificate - minimum Level 2, Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be knowledgeable and interested in children, families, and the dynamics of adult- child relationships.
  • Knowledgeable and have good understanding of child development and positive child behaviour guidance strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Ability to create a positive impression in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Enjoys interaction with people and is non-judgmental.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (including days, evenings, and some weekends).
  • Experience working in an inclusive, culturally diverse, and multi-disciplinary team setting an asset.
  • Competent in or willing to gain knowledge of resources, community, and social issues (within North Rocky View and Area).
  • Training and/or experience in special needs is an asset.
  • Be willing to accept a variety of job-related tasks.
  • Proactive, punctual, and reliable.
  • Required to stand or sit for extended periods of time during performance of duties.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Able and willing to assume a coaching role with Educators.
  • Able and willing to be on call for emergencies when assigned (required to carry) the Emergency Cell Phone as per guidelines established for this purpose.
  • Standard First Aid, Level C, CPR/AED.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Criminal Record check (Vulnerable Sector).
  • Free of conviction or pending trial involving child abuse, child neglect, moral corruption, or physical violence.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a CS Child and Youth Intervention check.
  • A positive attitude with commitment to providing quality service is essential.
  • Effective stress management skills.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills, including prioritizing and setting goals.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Capable of moving/lifting equipment/resources.
  • Driving to rural locations, in all weather and road conditions. Current driver’s license with adequately insured reliable transportation required.
  • May involve working with children and families considered to be very high risk including those with criminal tendencies, potential violence and aggression, mental health issues (such as depression and suicidal tendencies), physical/sexual/emotional abuse and/or neglect, and substance abuse.
