Job Description
What you can expect in a typical day
As a Futures Trader, you will be an integral part of our Product Trading team supporting the Commodity Risk Management, Products and Trading teams. You will be responsible for executing trades and trading strategies in compliance with Irving’s hedge program and analyzing market conditions to manage risk within prescribed limits.

Your roles and responsibilities:
  • Execute standard hedging program in accordance with company policies
  • Lead development, management and execution of adjustments to standard hedging program
  • Analyze market information and market trends daily to inform decisions on standard hedging programs
  • Collaborate with the Commodity Risk management Analysts to develop and implement financial trading strategies based on market analysis.
  • Support Physical Traders in the development of analyses for non-standard hedging strategies in accordance with company policies and execute trades related to these strategies as required
  • Support analytics team in developing and back testing fundamental and systematic models to identify trading opportunities
  • Understand risks associated with hedging and trading activities and abide by established risk tolerance levels
  • Develop counterparty and broker relationships
  • Provide periodic presentations to senior management with regard to strategy and financial performance
  • Perform daily valuation of financial positions to reconcile with the Corporate Back Office
  • Actively working on transactions, analysis and strategies during regular market hours. This position requires the financial traders be actively managing his/her financial transactions at all time during regular market hours

  • Proven ability to develop and successfully execute trading strategies based on market analysis, e.g. technical and fundamental analysis
  • Awareness of basic legal and regulatory principles as it relates to trading and Irving Oil proprietary business
  • Team player with strong communication, decision making, and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic, fast paced, and high-pressure environment
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Strong computer skills particularly working with MS Excel
  • Strong understanding of relevant futures, swaps, and options for crude and products
Travel
  • Travel is not a requirement for this role
Education and experience
  • An advanced degree in business/engineering, economics, financial engineering or finance-related disciplines is strongly preferred
  • Previous work experience with or within Supply Planning and Trading team(s)
  • Must have experience in oil and products markets analysis
  • Professional designation (CFA, FRM) is considered an asset.
