Job Purpose: The General Maintenance position will be responsible for maintaining and repairing all Guest rooms, common areas, and outdoor grounds. The equipment repairs/changes include but are not limited to, toilets, showers, Jacuzzi tubs, sinks, change light bulbs, wallpaper repair and minor electrical repairs. The General Maintenance Team Member must have strong mechanical abilities and be skilled in the use of basic hand and electric tools.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains hotel, pool, and surrounding area, performing painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, HVAC functions, and other related maintenance activities, using hand tools.
  • Performs routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or doing other preventive maintenance actions.
  • Notifies management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment. Perform some repairs on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, kitchen, and laundry equipment.
  • Responsible for snow clearing and salting in early morning of the winter season.
  • Responds to guest requests for service according to company policy. Keep records of rooms completed.
  • Displays good customer relation skills and takes initiative to greet guests in a friendly manner.
  • General Hotel Inspections every morning.
  • Follows all company and safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Participate and respond to all emergency procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience, Skills and Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6 months of professional experience with property maintenance or other general maintenance
  • Significant, professional experience in plumbing and electrical, preferred
  • Superb organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once and to troubleshoot —causes of operating errors and decide how to repair
  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, with patience and tact
  • Use arithmetic to measure, compute amount of materials to use, and to inspect product to be sure it conforms to requirements. Monitor operational equipment.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment to detect or assess problems.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 24.5 kg and push/pull 14.5 kg
  • Must be available to work a variety of shifts (evenings, weekends, holidays)
  • Must be able to complete a Criminal Background Check to the hotel’s satisfaction.

Onboarding Requirement:

  • Required to provide a certificate proving completion of the Health and Safety Awareness Training for Supervisors (e-course provided by the Ministry of Labour)
