From our humble beginnings in 1951 as a group of mothers going door-to-door collecting dimes in support of polio research, March of Dimes Canada has grown into a national, multi-service not-for-profit organization. We work for people with disabilities and seniors, helping them with daily living, rehabilitation and employment.

What does the Community Support Services team do?

Our Community Support Services team, which is primarily funded by governments, provides essential services that enable people to live as independently as possible. Whether the disability is physical, cognitive or the result of brain injury or aging, our team of 1,600 employees assists people in their homes and communities, helping them gain a greater level of functioning and connection with others. Over the past year, the number of people we serve rose to more than 6,100 people.

This Opportunity

We are currently looking to fill a Part Time, permanent housekeeping role in our North East region – Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Duties include the following:

  • Assist consumers in their own homes with non-medical activities of daily living: light housekeeping (dusting, sweep, mop, vacuum, make bed, dishes, etc.) and laundry activities (sort, wash, dry, and fold); grocery shopping, light meal preparation on a scheduled basis according to the consumer’s service agreement and March of Dimes Canada policies and procedures.
  • Provide housekeeping service in a friendly, courteous, professional and safe manner, which respects the consumer’s dignity and right to privacy, while ensuring consumer and staff safety.
  • Manage and respond to change in a positive manner.
  • Work safe according to WHMIS, Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) laws, regulations, MODC policies and procedures.The Home Support Worker will be required to shifts up to 29.5 hours a week that may vary between locations.

Background / Qualifications:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Valid G-Class driver’s license
  • Reliable vehicle with current car insurance to complete home to home community visits
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification
  • Experience working with older adults, adults with age related health conditions, and/or disabilities.
  • Valid CPIC-vulnerable person check (obtained less than 6 months from date of application).
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by receiving all required doses of a vaccine approved by Health Canada at least 14 days prior to the start of employment
  • Knowledge and abilities in housekeeping duties
  • Ability to work flexible and regularly scheduled hours
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Physical Demands Self Analysis required upon hire
