The San Group of Companies has had its roots in the lumber industry since 1979. During this time the group has evolved from a small lumber remanufacturing facility to a multilevel forest products corporation. We focus on harvesting the highest quality Canadian timber and pride ourselves on the understanding the value chain of lumber manufacturing.

The San Group is looking to hire a Junior Accountant for their Corporate Head Office. The Junior Accountant will be responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to record financial information, prepare accurate and timely reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures. The strategic, results-oriented, and creative individual will work alongside the management team to communicate a consistent message across divisions and markets to strengthen the San Group brand and advance our global growth strategy. This is a hands-on role requiring the ability to juggle and remain focused on multiple projects.

What You'll Do

  • Process all day-to-day accounting general entries
  • Reconciliation of daily sales receipts
  • Process and review accounts payable and receivables for accuracy
  • Provide daily/weekly updates to direct reports
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports and statements
  • Ensure accurate and appropriate recording of financial transactions and compliance with accepted policies and procedures.
  • Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts and sub-ledgers, as required.
  • Prepare various surveys, censuses, and reports for external organizations.
  • Ensure that strong internal controls are in place to safeguard the company’s assets.
  • Interact with internal and external auditors in completing audits.
  • Prepare annual operating budgets and monthly forecasts.
  • Be proactive and engaged with operations by regularly visiting production sites to learn about and address specific local requirements and be on top of current operations challenges.
  • Share best practices with other finance team members within the organization on tools, system utilization and processes.

Requirements and Skills

  • 2+ years of experience in an accounting/office environment and manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • University degree in Finance or Accounting; CPA designation is an asset.
  • Knowledge of major ERP systems; Microsoft D365 knowledge is an asset.
  • Intermediate Excel and Outlook skills are required.
  • Mastery of oral and written English;
  • Occasional travel to sites required.
  • Positive, proactive, detail oriented and driven to succeed.
  • Effective organization, planning, implementation and follow-up skills
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented individual who incorporates goal-setting and action-planning to achieve success.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and clarify requirements.
