Highlights of the job

We are hiring ten (10) Full Time, Temporary Labourer 2 position for up to 11 months working out of Edmonton, AB.

The Labourer 2 is primarily responsible to provide support, assist and perform construction work along with crew engaged in various open cut construction and rehabilitation construction projects. This will include the construction / repair of sanitary sewer lines, catch basins, manholes, water mains, ditches, swales, outfalls, structures, etc. Perform all work in accordance with federal and provincial legislation, applicable bylaws, and safety standards. An outstanding attitude to work place safety to complete work and promote a safe work place is necessary.

What you’d be responsible for

  • Striving to achieve a zero injury culture by actively participating in ensuring the safety of the jobsite and all members of the crew.
  • Assist in installing new water, sanitary sewer and storm water service connections, including pipe fitting and service taps
  • Assist in installing, replacing and rehabilitating the sanitary sewer and storm water sewer mains, including manholes, catch basins and catch basin leads.
  • Assist in placement of shoring, timbers, struts and cages as per defined regulations and procedures
  • Assembling and disassembling of shoring equipment, Shaft liner plates, Trench Boxes etc.
  • Assist in the excavation and assembly of shaft construction projects as well as support chamber and manhole installation
  • Hand exposure of various utilities conflicting with drainage construction activities
  • Set up and remove temporary traffic control barricades and Flag traffic in areas with high traffic volumes
  • Deliver construction materials throughout the City of Edmonton in a hotshot delivery system.
  • Perform routine work using a variety of equipment / tools such as power saw, torque wrench, tubing cutter, flaring tool, picks and shovels, compressor and air tools etc.
  • Perform all work according to the safety and environmental standards with respect to Federal, Provincial, EPCOR and Departmental regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Able to work alone without supervision

What’s required to be successful

  • Grade 12 High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in construction / repair of storm and sanitary sewer systems and water distributions or relevant experience in construction will be considered an asset.
  • Possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operators License and ability to maintain a valid EPCOR driver's permit.
  • A Driver Abstract may be required.
  • Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of sewer and water lines.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions and meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work performed.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions in English, and knowledge of reading work from plans and specifications.
  • You have a strong commitment to safety and have the ability to take an active role in tasks assigned and see them through to completion.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete, maintain and be 100% proficient in our Construction Competency Passport Program.

Please note that due to the nature of this position you will be required to wear a ½ mask respirator for extended periods on a daily basis.
